A critical file that is needed at the boot of Windows is corrupted or completely missing. To see if the file is from a program or driver or Windows itself you must try to boot in Safe Mode - if you can then the problem is outside of Windows.  If you would have provided the exact error message from the BSOD it would have helped in identifying the file in question.
But if you can't boot into Safe Mode then it means that windows itself is corrupted and it must be reinstalled. The best way is to reinstall using the recovery partition that Acer has put in your laptop - press Alt and F10 during boot and follow all the instructions as they appear on the screen.

whats the BSOD? I was able to reboot in the safe mode and got the following message after windows started up.
"windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown"
    Problem signature said:
    Event name : blue screen
    Locale ID: 1033

Can this help with knowing what the problem is or fixing it?

BSOD = Blue Screen Of Death = it's the screen to which Windows crashes, it has on it why it crashed (as in the error number) what is the problem (a very general descriptipn of what this number means) and which is the file that triggered it. What you found is just the notification that the BSOD was recorded in the Event log - useless for diagnostic. But since you were able to boot in Safe Mode it means that the problem is outside Windows. The first thing you should do is to disable the start of every program that is set to start at boot. Boot in Safe Mode with networking and go here
and download (as in Save, not Run) Autoruns. you will get a zip file, unzip it and launch it. In the Logon tab you will find all the programs that are set to launch at boot - untick all , close Autoruns and reboot normally. If you can you will know that one of the programs is guilty of the BSOD so open Autoruns and enable the programs one at a time  and reboot to find if you get a BSOD - when you will get it you will know that the last program is faulty - boot in Safe mode and uninstall it.
If you get a BSOD even with all the programs unticked then one of the drivers is corrupted - uninstall them all and download the latest version directly from Acer
    and reinstall them.

I have an extensa 4620-6456 labtop it is stuck in start up mode when I turn on the computer the frist screen is ACER and then it goes to windows XP it bring me to what mode do I want to start up in safe...

This is problem with the OS. You have to look for "Acer eRecovery Management" in the start menu and you can restore the computer to factory setting. The other option is if you have a Windows Disk you can repair the OS.
Let me know if you have any issue. Thanks for using
Thanks Shereena

Booting Systems Down

these types of problems are very complicated. I being a tech can fix very easy if I have the pc in front of me but to explaine to someone how to do it is very detailed. The 1st thing that any good tech would suggest is to start in safe mode and remove uninstall the software and hardware you installed. then reboot and go from there.
