I have a temporary solution that is working: Use WD-40 around the switch. Spray with the straw that comes with the WD-40. Let stand for a couple days, then turn the whole unit upside down and spray again, and let it stand that way for a couple days. If we could get inside, it could be more of a sure thing, but I had given up on mine and when I accidently hit the switch after siting for the last few days, , it came on!

Now for Sears to try to locate the tool that will open the case.

TAMPER BIT T-20 .. probably get them at auto zone ,not that expensive, then take the needed T-20 bit and cut a slot on the top end so you can use a common tip screw driver to place into the slot .. just drop bit into hole then stick screw driver in and line up slot .. presto changeo .. screw comes out . just repeat sequence in reverse when putting it together..good luck

What can be done about leaking steam?

ensure your iron steam button is not set into perminent steam function. leaving the iron with the point of the iron pointing upwards should reduce steam to the handle. also the iron may need to be descaled to ensure any steam switch funtion is not stuck in an on position.

Contacted Shark customer service and they emailed one. My product was the EP 8000 which is no longer produced. Sent the revised manual that is only a bit different for the EP 8001. Call them, they are very nice.

It appears that your rocker switch is broken, I am attempting to find a source for the switch and the screw driver that removes the screws holding the unit together

EP8001 Steam generator.

Sears sells a screwdriver set (47486 is written on the handle) that has a lot of non-standard drivers. There is one on there that will fit the nuts on this unit.

Also, I used a rubber tube from an Auto parts store to replace the cracked hose. I figured the Automotive hosing was designed to withstand the heat of an engine. So, it should work on this iron.

Bring the cracked iron hose with you to the auto parts store.
