Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an Acer Aspire 8930G. I am having problems powering up. With the power supply (AC) plugged in, I hear a very faint audible tick every second or so, which I gather might be the graphics controller, but not sure. Anyway, the laptop is not responding....no light up...nothing. I need help please. Trevor

Vase from the description of your problem, this is a hardware problem on your laptop the possible hardware causing this is the power input plug of the laptop if it wont power on even when connected to a power outlet, or there's also a big chance of motherboard failure already.
If you have any experience opening up a laptop I would advice you to open the laptop and take a look inside it for the connection and also to determine if there;s any burn part on the laptop but if not to avoid further problem I advice you to take this to someone that has some experience or better yet to a service center for repair.

AC power adapter is plugged in. The laptop works fine on battery power but as soon as you connect it to AC adapter, the laptop turns off.

So your saying the charger will charge the battery, as long as the laptop is off...But when it is charged, you remove the ac adapter, start up the laptop, running on battery power alone, then hook the ac adapter to it, and the laptop cuts off..???

This is a long shot but take out the battery and leave it a couple of hours then replace and place it on charge overnight then retry next day, you have maybe already tried that, the only other thing I can think of is get a multimeter or someone who knows how to use one and check that the voltage is kicking out 19v DC from the charger

Hello,

Yes. The laptop will work with just the AC adapter plugged in. You can remove the battery from the laptop to check whether the ac adapter will turn it on.

If it does power on the laptop without the batter, then, you should purchase a new battery for your laptop.

You may have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

My acer aspire 8930g dc jack is loose,

The power supply on the 8930g is on the left hand side an is not as shown in the youtube video recommended, it is easy to remove the cover over the jack (one screw) and solder the jack back into place (done it myself) hope that helps.
make sure you remove the battery first.

Acer Aspire 3000 Power Issues

In this case myself assume that your acer do a problem in the memory, try remove and clean the memory.

1. boot your acer without the memory. hear beep? if yes,
Only memory has a problem, if no, then;

examine the mainboard of your acer.

If you can hear a beep then fix back the memory and start the system.

if this not solve the problem, replace the memory.

In case that it hard for you to open the laptop let the repairman do it for you so that all your problem will be examine.
