Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

I have a Mod 110 22442100 washer and it finished the wash cycle but won't drain or spin. I've tried lifting the lid and using a pen to see if the switch is the problem...no dice. I tried moving the knob to a different wash mode...nothing. I don't hear the timer clicking either. Not sure what to do now.

I definitely contend that the issue is with the lid switch and you can verify by bypassing it. Unplug the machine prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Pry the top of the console end cap trims off then remove the screws securing the front corners of the console to the top of the cabinet.

Pull forward and up on the console and lay it back on the hinges.

Disconnect the lid switch harness connector by pressing on the tab, locatedI have a Mod 110 22442100 washer and it finished - efe39c2.jpgdle, and pulling it up.

Jump a wire between the outer terminals of the lid switch harness connector removed from the cabinet then set the washer to drain and spin. The issue is indeed with the lid switch if the washer works with the lid switch bypassed. Check the harness and connections to make sure they are snug fit and not corroded and the lid switch actuator is intact. Replace the lid switch if the actuator is intact and if there's no issue found with the connections.

You have to remove the cabinet and access the lid switch for replacement. The cabinet is attached to the rear of the washer by two brass-colored retaining clips. Insert a flat blade screwdriver into the turned-up edge of the clip, locatedI have a Mod 110 22442100 washer and it finished - 0f9a026.jpgdes, and then pry back to release the clip from the slot in the cabinet.

Open and hold the lid while grabbing the cabinet front opening then tilt the top of the cabinet toward you by pulling the cabinet away from the base. This releases the front and back slots of the cabinet from the tabs in the front and back of the I have a Mod 110 22442100 washer and it finished - 1a71001.jpgng the side of your leg and/or body as a support for the front of the cabinet, carefully lift up and set the cabinet aside.

Replace the lid switch then reassemble the cabinet. Bring the cabinet to the front of the washer then slide the front bottom rail of the cabinet under the rail at the base of the machine then lay down the cabinet into position. Make sure the slots in the cabinet sit into the tabs at the base of machine.

Secure the cabinet to the back of the machine with the two retaining clips. Inset the clips into the slots on the back of the machine then push it down into position to the slots on the cabinet.

Reconnect the lid switch wiring harness connector and reinstall the console.

Washer won't drain or enter spin cycle

SHOULD BE THE LID SWITCH... THERE IS TWO SWITCHS INSIDE, ONE THAT STOP THE MACHINE, AND ONE TO LOCK THE DOOR. YOU SHOULD SEE THERE IS TWO PAIRS OF WIRES THAT CONECT WITH THE LID SWITCH, ONE PAIR IN THE FRONT, AND ANOTHER PAIR IN THE RIGHT SIDE, THAT RIGHT SIDE IS THE PROBLEM, INSIDE THE LID SWITCH MUST BE BROKEN. TRY TO MOVE THE PLATED LOCKING PIN IN THE DIRECTION THAT LOCKS THE DOOR, AND IT MIGHT DRAIN AND SPIN. IF THAT THE PROBLEM, YOU SHOULD GET A NEW SWITCH (MODEL 134101800), AND YOURE DONE.
GOOD LUCK

Wont drain and spin

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

Washer wont go into spin mode or discharge the water

Check the lid switch or lid striker that operates the switch. lift the top lid and insert a pen or similar into the hole on the right hand side to operate the switch when in spin mode.
If not try shorting the switch temporary, the top part of the washer needs to be hinged back to gain access, to do this insert a flat blade 4" from each side at the seam with the front panel to release the clips, lid will now hinge back to give access to the internals, Isolate the supply and locate the lid switch on the underside of the top panel and remove the 2 wires and short out/ link together. test the spin cycle now should now work and also drain the machine (Draining only works when washer is spinning) If all ok obtain and install a new switch do not leave the switch shorted.
Note this switch only affects the spin and draining parts of the cycle.
Good luck

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

Maytag Atlantis washer will not drain and spin unless you lift the lid

The cheaper thing to check first is is your lid bent? The lid switch is in the center of the lid. If it "droops" or has been bent, it shaft on the back of the lid cant hit the switch. Open the lid and apply pressure in the bottom, center of the lid. This usually corrects the problem without replacing the switch.
