Go to a Harbor Freight store near you or on-line to get a kit of 100-piece security-bits for about seven dollars on sale. The kit contains about every design imaginable and has about 9 or 10 torx bits with hollow centers. Hope this helps!

Torx fasteners on back panel have pins in the centers. Thus, Torx bit will not fit into the fasteners.

The torx screws were used so that it not tampered except by the facility of the service centers. Hence such changes to accessibilty was made so as to prevent unauthorised work. You need to buy the relevent screw driver to make it possible to remove the screws.
Please check the link for screwdrivers which you can also source from a hardware store.

MR COFFEE FTX49. Brewing starts, then stops

Mine just started to do the exact same thing. So I decided to clean it using the "Clean" program and just water. I put the brewer through the cleaning program 3 times - each time it would brew water from 12 cups to 8 cups, I'd tap the brewer on the countertop, it would brew from 8 cups to 4 cups, tap it again, and it would brew the remaining cups. So, I called the Mr. Coffee help line (800-672-6333). The most-likely problem is that the hose is no longer attached in the water reservoir. The help line suggested that I take it in to a service center. I live in Urbana, IL and the closest service center is in Oak Lawn, IL - 2 hours away from me!!
Here is my solution:
1) Buy another coffee brewer.
or
2) Smash your current Mr. Coffee brewer into a million pieces (this relieves stress) and go buy another coffee brewer (probably stay away from Mr. Coffee products).
Hope this helps.

When I try to brew a pot of coffee, the machine brews a cup or two then turns off. I have to turn it on over and over in order to get a full pot.

The problem may be caused by a check valve in the inlet hose. This little gadget, about an inch inside the heater end of the tube, allows water to flow into the heating element but not back -- unless it's broken. This hose is the one closest to the outside edge of the bottom.

I'm sure *someone* must sell a replacement part, and I'm in the middle of that search. But I did get an older, broken coffeemaker from my brother (another member of "the Slow Wastebasket" society!

I was able to disassemble my Model CBC-00PC2 using a standard Torx 10 screwdriver. However when I tried to take apart an older model, DCC-1200, I found that it used the security version of the Torx 10 screw: it has a tiny nipple (correct word?) in the center of the screwhead that prevents a standard Torx driver to fit. I was unable to find the correct screwdriver and a security Torx bit is too thick to fit, so my brother and I resorted to brute strength to pop of the bottom.

The only other problem I had was that the older hose was a bit brittle and both the older and newer ones had sort of welded themselves to the aluminum heater element tube. Luckily, there was enough extra length and I was able to make it fit -- barely! I lost one of the little metal clips so substituted a tiny cable tie.

Everything seems to work. Oh, the only reason I knew about the check valve is that I previously disassembled the thing to see what was wrong and I found something (probably a piece of the valve!) floating around.

Hope this helps.

Security screws

Just had the same problem. You need to use a Torx T-9 Tamper resistant screwdriver. It is a star bit with a small hole in the center.
I purchased mine at Appliance Parts company in Las Vegas.702-382-6532.
Good luck

Security screws on bottom of coffeemaker

I took a small (cheap) slot screwdriver with a blade just wide enough to fit into the wide part of the screw. I then took a hacksaw to the center of the screwdriver blade. This works best if the hacksaw blade is fairly thick. The idea is to remove enough of the center of the screwdriver blade so that the screwdriver can be inserted into the screw allowing the hacked out area of the screwdriver blade to fit around the stupid center post of the screw. The screws on mine weren't that tight, so I could turn the screws without twisting the screwdriver blade.

If your coffee maker is under a year old, take it to a authorized service center for free repair or replacement. If its over a year then the complete heating element assembly must be replaced. However, this part is only available to authorized service centers and is not sold to consumers.

Your coffee maker is still under the manufacturer's one year warranty. Contact Mr. Coffee for the nearest authorized service center in your area. You can take the unit or send it to the service center, they send it back to Mr. Coffee, and then Mr. Coffee send a new unit directly to you.

if the screw has an internal star configuration then it is a torx screw. torx drivers are easy to come by. you may even find an allen wrench might fit it. another is a three slot driver, then there is a one way screw that has flats for screwing in but ramps that push the regular screwdriver off it. use a diagonal cutting plier and press it tightly in the screw head and rotate counter clockwise.
