Yes ... well, maybe. Code in your community may require a 4 conductor cord and outlet, (you should retrofit if there is this requirement) otherwise, replace the cord or the outlet with one which matches.

Whats going on ... your dryer operates on 220 which is two hot leads ... well it sort of operates on 220 ... actually, the heater operates on 220 while the light bulb and probably the timer operate on 110. 110 requires a neutral ... in traditional 220, there is no neutral. To make the 110 light operate, manufacturers relied on the 'ground' for a 'return', ... this is no longer allowed in most places; a genuine neutral is now required PLUS a ground. All in the name of safety. If you have concerns about retrofitting - please seek the advice of a licensed electrician in your community ...

Hie, I also have a similar problem, my dryer is 3 pronged, 2 flat and one l shaped. I just want to make sure i understand before i go buy a new cord. So what kind of a replacement cord do i go looking for, my outlets are the regular 3 flat ones. And what kind of tools would i need for the replacement job to unscrew the screws from the back of the dryer?

    Thank you in advance.

Yes you can. The 2 flat ones are for the 110 volt wires and the L shape is the ground

Yes, you can buy another pig tail with the set up you have incoming. Just be sure when you remove your old one, you note which wire goes where.

Testimonial: "Wow that was quick results thank you. I took the old pigtail off and there are no colors just 3 screws and the wires are all grey in color. Hope I can find another that is the same. "

FISHER PAYKEL REPLACING A 4 PRONG PLUG TO FIT A THREE PRONG RECEPTACLE

Explanation.
Inside the rear of the dryer is a row of 3 screws/nuts.
The right and the left of those 3 are "hot".
You will attach the red and/or the black leads to those "outside" 2 screws, doesn't matter which.
The center wire is white wire only, it is a ground.
For the 4th wire, it will attach to the body of the dryer, it is also a ground.
P.S. On both the 3 prong and the 4 prong, the HOT wires ( red and also black ) are straight/flat lugs.
The "L" shaped lug and the round lug (4 prong only) are both ground.
Be blessed.

Or all blower motors on electric kenmore 80 series 220 or 110 current

Speaking of these United States, here's how that goes.
In this country, dryers are called 220, but they are really 110 twice!
So, on the back of the dryer is a plug with 3 or 4 prongs.
( hope you can get this from my description. )
On a 3 prong plug, the two "slanted" prongs are each hooked to 110 volt p service.
The "L" shaped prong is a ground.

If you have a 4 pronged plug, the two flat straight prongs are 110 volt each, and the "L" shaped and the round prong are both grounded.

FYI: Each of the 110 volt wires has a different function. One powers the motor, the other the heating element.
Be Blessed.

I have a 125/250 3 prong outlet but the current 3-prong plug on the maytag altantis dryer has an extra notch on one of the prongs. is there an adapter that i need to get to plug into my existing outlet?

The L shaped prong is for a 30 amp outlet and the 3 straight is for a oven and denotes a 50 amp circuit. Please use the proper connectors and wiring, Eric

The dryer has a four prong male plug and the outlet is a three prong female - which do I change? the dryer cord is the easiest, but how do I connect the leads?

4 PRONG PLUG WIRING: 2 HOTS(RED&BLACK) 1 NEUTRAL(WHITE) 1 GROUND(GREEN). 3 PRONG PLUG WIRING: 2 HOTS&1 NEUTRAL. YOU MUST USE 2 HOTS & 1 NEUTRAL ON A 3 WIRE PLUG. THE GROUND WIRE(GREEN) WHICH IS HOOKED TO FRAME OF THE DRYER IS NOT USED ON OLDER 3 WIRE PLUGS. IT IS AN ADDITIONAL SAFTEY GROUND ON NEWER MODEL 4 WIRE PLUGS.

I have a 4 prong pigtail

Here is what I believe you have.

The 3 prong plug on your dryer is configured with 2 lines of power and 1 ground. The 4 prong receptical is 2 lines of power, 1 neutral, and 1 ground.
You will have to turn off the breaker to see how the receptical is wired by pulling it out and looking at it. You can then buy a 4 prong plug to match it and only wire up the 3 prongs you need for your dryer and leave the 4th prong empty.

Good Luck and hope this helps
