Zone 2 will not output HDMI input sources unless the receiver is set to Party Mode. The full multi zone / source audio features bestowed upon this receiver. Not only did it have the ability to serve 3 independent zones of audio, but it also had power amp assignability for Zone2 so you could divert the unused back or presence channels to this duty. Best of all, you don't even have to power up the main zone to get music going to Zone 2.You could power up Zone2 independently and adjust level control and input selection all accessible on the front panel of the receiver via Zone 2 on/off and Zone control ****ons. Also check the connections if they are connected properly. If connected properly check out if the cables have got bit loose or are proper tight in the port. The connections are as follows:-- NOTE: For this example we will use Composite Video (Single, Yellow, RCA Cable), Analog Audio Red (Right Channel) & White (Left Channel). A higher quality video cable like an S-Video cable can be used if the TV supports it. Just substitute it for the Composite video cable. Please pint this document before attempting this process. When each step is completed it can be checked off to avoid repeating or confusing one step with another.

  1. Connect a Composite Video cable from the Receiver Composite Video Monitor Out to the TV Composite video input. (Make sure the TV is set to the input the cable is plugged into.)
  2. Connect the Composite Video Output from the VCR player to the Composite Video marked VCR input or DVRinput on the Receiver.
  3. Connect the Composite Video Input from the VCR player to the Composite Video marked VCR output or DVROutput on the Receiver.
  4. Connect the Analog Left and Right Audio Outputs from the VCR player to the Analog Left and Right Audio Inputsmarked VCR or the DVR on the receiver.
  5. Connect the Analog Left and Right Audio Inputs from the VCR player to the Analog Left and Right Audio Outputsmarked VCR or the DVR on the receiver.
The VCR is now set up to play Stereo VHS tapes as well as record analog audio and composite video signals being output from the receiver VCR or the DVR outputs. Most audio video receivers will not down convert Digital audio signals to the Analog VCR audio outputs. The same thing holds true for down converting Component Video signals to Composite Video or S-Video out to the VCR or the DVR video outputs.
he RX-V659 has a slight advantage point since it includes the following:
  1. Zone 2 IR In/Out ports
  2. Control Out +12V trigger port
  3. Pre-Out Zone 2 audio output connections
  4. Presence/Zone 2 speaker terminals
  5. Choice of amplified Surround Back or Presence or Zone 2 speakers
  6. Main Zone and Zone 2 On/Off buttons on front panel
  7. Master Power On/Off button on front panel.
NOTE:
  • If multiple zone video monitors are connected the video will be played simultaneously through all the monitors.
  • HDMI video signals are not output to Zone 2 video sources.
  • Low quality video signals input at the Composite or S-video may not be displayed correctly out of the Component video jacks.
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

When I try to turn up zone 2 the display reads fix. Is there a short or an ohms problem?

Look on page 99 of the manual. It's a parameter you have an option to change to Variable. Fix lets Zone 2 or 3 have a Fixed volume level independent of the volume control on the Yamaha. Variable makes them dependent on the control.

I have a Yamaha RX V665 and I am unable to change the volume

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

On zone 2 of my yamaha rx v663 receiver it says fixed when I try to adjust the vlume and won't let me cut it up or down.

Check the setup menu of the receiver on zone 2 settings most likely the error is a fixed volume setting for this zone. If not found, reset factory settings and try to setup everything again. If the problems persists, contact your vendor if still under warranty.

Receiver turns on and clicks off when volume is raised over 8 or 9 on the dial

I had the same problem with my Yamaha amp. It turned out to be a shorting speaker wire. When I resoldered the speaker wall outlet connection it worked fine!
