Question about Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver

1 Answer

We have been using our Yamaha RXV663 receiver for just short of 2 years. We have not changed any of the hook ups to the sony Bravia lcd or the sony blu ray in 7 months. Went to watch a dvd and the video will not show up only getting an audio signal. Took the blu ray and hooked it up to another lcd...ok. Changed out the audio cables on the tv/reciever, nothing changed. Is there something we can do with the remote? Is the receiver toast on the dvd video? Any suggestions. Looked at the warranty and good for 2 years...do you think this would be covered? Help

It appears that the video routing circuit from the Yamaha has failed.
Test the BR with this: connect the BR directly to that LCD using first the HDMI connector then the Component + Audio connectors - if the BR is good you will see an image with sound on both.
Now test the circuit: plug the BR in the receiver using first the HDMI then later the Component+Audio and the receiver to the tv using the HDMI first then the Component+Audio. If you don't have image in one of this combinations it means that the circuit is dead. Nothing you can do with the remote apart selecting the correct connections if they aren't automatically detected, it must be replaced by the dealer and it is covered by the warranty.

Compatibility issue: Sony BDPS350 Blue-ray & Yamaha RX-V1700?

HDMI compatibility issues continue to plague the industry and this more than likely is the problem. There are a couple of ways around this. Some people insist on "hot rodding" the dvd and tv by hooking up directly to each other avoiding the receiver all togeether (I do this). But you lose functionality and it makes things more complicated for other family members. Your best bet is to use RGB and Digital audio cables. You won't notice any quality loss and there is a possibility it will look better.
