Re: how to install replacement door handle
The inner door frame which is plastic needs to be removed with something like a butter knife. You slide it under the plastic and very carefully move it along to pop the inner door from off. Then you will see the screws that hold the handle.

The screws that hold on the handle are inside the door assembly. Here is the way its done but its not for the average person. On the inside of the door is a plastic frame all the way around the door. It is held in place by plastic tabs. You have to gently pry off that frame with something like a putty knife or small screw driver. If you are not careful you end up breaking off some of the tabs. Once that frame is off you should have access to the 2 screws holding on the handle. Remove screws---replace handle---and push plastic frame back on.
Remove two screws on top at front in order to remove plastic front vent
grill. Then the door lifts off pin hinges. Lay door flat on surface.
Plastic trim snaps off with gentle prying (start at bottom middle and
bottom hinge side). Then remove six screws holding notched metal
section with door latch. This piece will also snap out (several visible
clips holding it around edges). Then remove door handle screws, Replace
handle and reverse process to put back together.
The inside of the door has a Black Plastic frame about 1 inch wide. This frame can be removed by placing a thin screwdriver between it and the outer door frame and gently (very gently) prying it away from the door. It takes a little wiggling of the frame but it will unlock. On each end of the handle is a philips head screw that holds the handle to the door.

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.
Solution for GE Spacemaker Ovens (my model is JVM1650BH05)
1- Remove door by lifting it out of hinges. You will need to remove grille first (2 set screws). 2- Carefully pry off the plastic inside door trim. Use a fine knife or putty knife. There are 10 tabs holding the trim from behind. It's OK if you break a tab! Try to pull out as straight as possible. 3- Once the trim is off, remove the 2 visible screws that hold the door handle. NOTE: There are 2 invisible screws so you are not done yet! 4- You now need to remove the metal ring that holds the latches. To do that, grab the metal ring and using your other hand, release each plastic tab one by one (same tabs as above). 5- Once the metal ring is loose, you will see 2 screws. Remove them if they are still there. 6- Position your new handle and attach using the first 2 screws. 7- Reposition the metal ring by re-snapping it in place. Install the other 2 screws. 8- Replace the plastic trim by snapping it back in place 9- Reinstall door and grille. Tell wife or hubby that you are a genius!
Bonus: use metal washers when screwing down the 2 first screws.
There is a pin holding the door on upper right hand corner of the door. Holding the door in the open position, lift up on the door a little and remove the pin. The door will come off. There are two screws on the edges of the door on the end where the handle is located. Remove the screws. Now, Take a slim screw driver, and carefully pry between the inside door panel and the ourside door panel starting at the end where the door handle is. Lift the inside of the door out. The opposite end of the inside door panel will come out last. Believe me, this works. Getting it back together is a little bit different, but it snaps back together without using tools. Just put the inside of the door back by laying it down with the handle side down after you have replaced the handle of course. Now, pushing in on the inside of the door panel starting on the handle side, start with lining up the panel and push gently. It will go back into place much much easier than it comes out.
bogus...use a Torx driver to remove the door screws...careful of the glass. Replace the handle and reassemble. You may want to take digital pictures along the way. Parts available from ge or other online parts guys.
