I have a Sub Zero 650 and the freezer is working just fine, but yesterday the refrigerator part started acting up. It just will not hold a cool temperature. It will warm up to 55-60 degrees, and then the compressor will kick on for a few minutes lowering it to 48-50 degrees, and then it will shut off. This morning I opened up the top to vacuum out the condenser, and I noticed that the compressor was very hot and the evaporator coil?? (copper oil at the top of the compartment) was iced over. I turned the unit off to let the ice melt and the compressor cool down, and then I fired it back up again. Unfortunately this didn't fix anything and I am still having the same problem. Can you please help me?

Hi, from the detail explanation you made above concerning the refrigerator, the freezer works fine and the fridge is not cooling means that the thermostat in the fridge is faulty.
Concerning the kicking of the compressor, it's sounds like an "overload and relay" on the compressor.
This is the equivalent to a starter on a car. When they go bad, the compressor just does a "buzzzzz.. click" for some seconds or minutes. In the worst case, you may have a bad compressor, but this is less common.

Take care

After the power outage my Sub Zero 650's control panel is stuck on showing

Hi,

It's possible that your refrigerator could have it's own capacitor/battery that needs to be charged to a certain level before every portion of your fridge functions again. You can give the fridge 1.5 hours to be plugged in before checking your freezer temperature again.

If that does not work, please call sub zero by dialing 1 (800) 222-7820

Thank you.

How can I get the refrigerator to cool (the freezer is working fine)?

Double check your refrigerator setting, it should be separate from the freezer. Check the vent is clean. If it is still not cooling, set freezer to warmer, turn off the unit, unplug, wait 3 minutes. Restart and see if the condenser starts

Left door open on Sub zero model 650

It went into self protection mode. Just leave it closed and when the compressor cools down enough, it will start. Once the ref starts to cool, the lights and such will come back on.

All of this assumes that no failure was caused by the long run times when the door was open

My 650/f sub-zero is not cooling in the refer but the freezer is working fine?

Subzero uses two compressors so the freezer is a separate system. The first thing to do is clean the condenser. You can find instructions on how in the owners manual or at subzero.com. They even have videos. If that doesn't take care of it you could have a bad condenser fan motor a sealed system issue or a temperature sensor issue. Also I have seen if you put something tall enough to push up on the light cover on the top shelf that can stop the evaporator fan at the top of the refrigerator section.

Sub zero 650 fidge holding at 53 degrees

That depends on if your model has a five or ten year warranty on the compressor. Your problem may not be warranty related. Check and see if the condenser is clean, check for a frozen cooling coil.
