Question about Yahoo Mail

1 Answer

Virus??? I've had the same Yahoo account for the past 13 years. Over the past few days, my account has been sending (offensive) spam messages. My contacts are receiving these messages, and the only reason why I know about it is because some of the messages are bouncing back to me as failed delivery. I have already run a spyware scan on my home computer, which came up clean, and I deleted my entire contact list, but the problem has not subsided. What do I do???? Please let me know asap!! Juliana

It is not your pc that may be infected. your account had been compromised by a possible hacker/spammer. DIid you give your information to anyone or registered at a website which you are not so sure about? note also that when a machine is sometimes infected with virus it is defficult for some anti-virus software to identify them since their scanning engines themselves are infected, it like someone standing in the rain and trying to dry himself.......it just wont work. i once had to format all my pc's running avg anti-virus which was neither updating nore detecting virus even though you could tell from the behaviour of the pc and the type of folders on a drive which the owner never created yet kept remaking itself up when deleted. visiting some sites could open you to so many hackers and spammers so always remember that the web is never a safe place even with the best anti-virus which only help........the greater part depends on the kind of sites that you visit could install what is known as keyloggers unknown to the user which secretly record the keys that you type and sends the information back to its creator. empty your browser cach and temporary folders from time to time. In your situation its quit unfortunate and the only way that seems to me is the best is to creat another account and transfer your contacts if you have created them again and need, to the new account. And unless i do forget, when you did delete you contacts it did not solve anything because whoever was behind this already had them so the spamming was not hard for him.
Remember that the web is never safe, only you can make it safe..........good luck

Same thing has happened to me on my yahoo email account that I've had for 12 years! It just happened for the second time yesterday and I deleted all of my contacts today. I was hoping that was going to solve my problem, but sounds like from your experience, it won't. I don't want to shut down this email account since I've had it for so long, but guess I might have to if it keeps up.

MAIL RETURNED UNABLE TO DELIVER, I DIDN'T SEND IT

If people in your address book are getting email from you that you didn't send, either your computer or your account has been hacked; you need to scan your computer for viruses and change your email password.

If only you are getting emails you didn't send, marked returned unable to deliver, a spammer is hiding his email address and making the email look like it came from you to get past Yahoo's spam filter. Report these messages as spam. If you keep getting them, you may need to set up a filter.

Help I think my Yahoo Account has been compromised or hacked!!

that happend to me. all you have to do is log on to your yahoo account and change your pass code . when you leave your yahoo account make sure you log out every time. if you stay logged in theres a much bigger chance of it being hacked again. your passcode should be made up of some numbers, mixed upper case and lower case letters. after i changed mine the problems stopped.

My yahoo mail keep sending spam..please help me

Usually if you're mail account is sending spam that means a third party has somehow managed to obtain your password. Usually this sort of problem can easily be fixed by changing your yahoo account password to something more secure.

I am getting spam attaching to old deleted emails and recent emails and sending spam messages out to friends from my yahoo account. Please givve me a phone number to talk to someone lieive. you can reach...

Do you use a yahoo client on your computer? If so, your computer is probably infected with a virus. The only reason that you would be sending spam from your email account is if someone hacked it, or if you are using a client program on your computer, and it is infected with a virus.

If you are using the web version of yahoo, please change your password immediately.

Otherwise, download the free version of malwarebytes at www.malwarebytes.org. Install and update the program, then run a scan. It will remove most viruses.

My yahoo mail is compromised. I get delivery failure messages when I did not send any and friends are complaining about messages from my account that I did not send. How do I fix ,this.

Something that you opened has 'read' your contacts list and sent a spam message to them all.

Delete all messages received since it began happening just in case someone you know sent it without realising. Sounds like Malware virus or similar.

WhY my account is dis able ?

Some of the following are reasons why facebook may disable your account:

  1. You send "too many" friend requests in one day/session.
  2. You make "too many" wall posts in one day/session - especially with verbatim content and with links.
  3. You copy and paste the same friend request message "too many" times.
  4. You send too many identical emails to individual friends and/or friend lists*.
  5. You message your Group members "too many" times.
  6. You message your Event invitees "too many" times
  7. You are under 18 years old and not part of a High School group.
  8. You wrote offensive content.
do you fit into these categories? also check your email alot of the time facebook will e-mail you why.

thanks.

This account is curently blocked from sending messages , i was trying to send an email to a group of people , who are waiting for this email , and i got this alert message ,what do i do about it? please...

Your account is temporary blocked for sending emails within a 24 hours period. But you can still receive and view your mails.

Yahoo Mail detected an unusual activity on your account. Sending too many e-mail in a large group may have trigger the suspension of your account. Yahoo Mail protects its users from spams. Activity like sending e-mail on a large scale suspected this as spam.

If you are planning on sending message in a group, It is better if you batch it by 100/group. It is better also if there is a time interval per sending.

Your account will work again after 24 hours. You just have to wait.

However, if your account is sending failure after 24 hours, It is advisable to report this issue to the Customer Care of Yahoo Mail. How? click this link
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/postmaster/abuse_smtp.html
Fill up completely the Yahoo Help Form.
And click Submit button. In a few time your account will be able to send messages again.

Let me know if your sending is unblock.

Please come back and give me some ratings.

Thank You for using Fixya.

Why is my yahoo mail sending messages to everyone i know when i am not doing it

The message you're getting is because the Yahoo mail server has flagged you outgoing message as either Spam or, it contains a virus.

The first thing you should is scan your pc for viruses / malware using a well known anti virus program. Sophos and Kaspersky both make good products. You can also run a free online scan of your pc from Trend Micro's website.

If a scan of your pc does not detect any viruses or malware then you will need to contact Yahoo's customer support to find out exactly why your messages are being rejected.

There's nothing wrong with your account settings and the free version of Yahoo mail has no restrictions on sending outbound mail except for possibly a size limitation on messages containing attachments.

Suspicious Activity on Yahoo Email Account

Most probably, someone is using your account to send spam mail.
First and foremost, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY. Use a strong password - with letters, numbers, symbols and long enough to make it difficult to guess. Also, notify Yahoo of the problem.
Still, it may take a while before Yahoo "white-lists" you again.
All the best.

Still getting lots of spam

Here's a suggestion, you really can't do a whole about now, however, you can set up an alternate yahoo account and only use for sending and receiving mail to known and trusted people. I have been a yahoo client for the past 14 years and I have several alt. accounts each for a specific purpose, I don't give these addy's out to anyone or anysite unless I know and trust them. Absolutely no spam in these accounts for years. If you need further help, call this number:
