Make a good backup of all your files, before the disk-drive (or the motherboard) completely "dies".

Then, take your computer to a Toshiba-approved technician, for professional trouble-shooting.

Humming sound when you drive

check the u- joints for looseness. The humming noise may be harmonic vibration from u- joints, un balanced drive shaft, or incorrect operating diff angles.. Check what tires you are running as certain tread patterns will produce a hum on certain hard surfaces.

My computer is not work I I hear humming sound

First you need to find out where the humming sound is coming from. More than likely it is your power supply, the CPU Fan or the Hard Drive. Once you know where the sound is coming from then you can find a fix for it. Open the case and power on the computer so you can see and hear where the humming is coming from.

HI I have dell desktop tower computer. what I want to know if can place the cpu box flat instead of standing.

Yes you can place the CPU Box on its side as long as you do not cover any vent openings effecting the air circulation. Here is the technical side of your question; You will not affect any electronics of the computer, but we use to recommend reformatting the hard drive on its side because the hard drive head rides above the disk surface micro meters from the platter. The gravitational force on the head may affect the positioning of the head over the platter surface affecting the reading and writing of the data. However, the technology is so much better now that I would back up any critical data before you lay the box down on its side. Next I would right click on your drive and left click on tools to defragmenter your drive.

Computer turns itself off

Your fan speeds up and slows down in response to temperature inside the computer. More so the CPU.

I would suggest getting a can of compressed air made for computers

take it outside, take of the side and blow all the gunk out of there, Really go to town around the fan (you might want to wear eye protection)
While you are in there just check that the CPU cooler itself is not loose

If it is it will have to be re-seated.

If it needs re-seating don't just take it off and put it back on as that might make things worse with your temperature problem they have to be cleaned and new thermal grease put on ($2-5)

DON'T remove the CPU just the fan/cooler assembly.

You must clean both the surfaces without scraping anything off. Use isopropynol alcohol and cotton bud sticks until both surfaces are clean, you can use your finger nail to scrape harder residue if you wish but nothing else.

DON'T pour the alcohol over the CPU

Now apply some new thermal grease (most computer shops have it)

Be careful about how much you put on

Here are
some basic instructions

Once you have re-assembled your cooler and re-connected it check everything is OK and power up the computer.

If everything went to plan you should now be back in business

My new acer aspire tower has an anoying hum. Is this normal?

Hi Rick,

Ideally there will be some amount of noise emanating from any system, so its normal. The noise factor can be attributed to various components within your tower. Typical components that generate noise are:

CPU Fan - It usually runs at a speed of 1500 rpm
Hard Drive - There are circular metallic discs in the hard drive which run at a speed of about 7200 rpm for normal hard drives
Video Card Fan (if there is one)
SMPS/Power Supply fan

However, if the noise is very audible then you can try the following:

- Ensure that your tower is kept on a flat surface
- There are no obstructions around the power supply fan (found at the back of your tower)
- Power supply provided is proper and coming through a spike buster

If you feel that the noise level is high, then I would recommend contacting Acer support as it may be a problem with one of the fans or the way your motherboard has been fixed within the tower.

My cruzer micro lights up, but not recognized by my computer

Turn off CPU, Unplug Power cable, And all usb devices, let it sit for about 20mins. Plug it all back in. Turn on the CPU! Also make sure if your device requires "DRIVERS" or if you have a CD download and install that before anything.

Mother board or CpU Doesnt work. technician said I have a ghost inside my CPU!

verify your bios settings with regards to what the pc is expecting in way of hard drive.
Do you have the luxury of another hard drive that you can try on this pc ? - this will 'suggest' where the problem rests.
Make sure the lead is fully located on the back of hard drive.
If possible - change the lead for a 'known working' lead (Maybe from the computer that your hard drive was recognized in)
