I have a 4gb Flash drive with a Win32 PSW.OnLineGames.NMY trojan on it. The autorun file is infected and has write protected the flash drive. Most antivirus have not been successful in removing the trojan. Can't force format because of write protection. Have used mac os but not working either.
    Help please.

Remove Write Protection From 3tb Toshiba Canvio

I was using XP and windows 7 with my Toshiba Canvio 3tb external and all the sudden I got a "write protect" message from XP and a "bit error" message from windows 7. After trying all the things I found online such as diskpart chkdsk, and changing the registry key, I decided to look elsewhere for my problem. None of these things worked at all, so I realized that the problem must be with a boot file of the Toshiba external drive. Since my drive is partitioned using exfat instead of NTFS, I hooked it up to my Mac (10.6.4). I opened up disk utility and selected the Toshiba drive. It would not allow me to repair permissions so I went to "verify and repair" instead. I ran it twice. After the second time I could now write to the disk and delete from the disk. I hooked it back up to my pc and it works fine. I lost no files. I still don't know how it happened, but its fixed for now anyway.

Removing Write Protection

Trouble:
In the past we had received so many problems from the readers who have a problem in copying files on their USB portable devices like pen drives, memory card and iPod etc.
usbdrivewriteprotected_thumb.gif
According to the mails we had received about this problem, people have seen the following errors when their thumbs drives, memory card etc becomes write protected.
  • Cannot copy files and folders, drive is write protected
  • Cannot format the drive, drive is write protected
  • The disk is write protected
  • Remove write protection or use another disk
  • Media is write protected
Some times people say that suddenly their drive become write protected and they are not able to delete any files and folder on the drive and also not able to copy new files and folder to USB portable drive.
Let’s see how can you remove write protection on your portable devices like pen drives, memory cards, iPod and other USB mass storage devices.
Fix:
Write Protection on any portable USB Device can be applied by the physical lock provided on the card adjuster or some times provided on the pen drives, so make sure to make your drive not write protected by moving the lock in right direction.
But even after moving the physical lock for write protection the problem can happen due to some virus action. This happens when some virus or script which applies the registry hack to make any drive write protect when connected to the computer, In that case follow the procedure below to remove write protection from your pen drive.
1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter, this will open the registry editor.
2. Navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Note: If the registry key StorageDevicePolicies key does not exist, you will need to create it
Download this batch file called add.bat from here, and double click after download the key will be automatically added to registry.

3. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right pane and set the value to 0 in the Value Data Box and press OK button disablewriteprotection_thumb.png

google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);

4. Exit Registry, restart your computer and then again re-connect your USB pen drive on your computer. That is it, done.
In case you still find an issue, please leave a comment below.

After a lot of user comments telling that the above method does not work for them, we tell you another method which you can follow to solve the “Pen Drive is Write Protected” problem.
If the above method does not work for you, follow the below steps:
1. Copy all the important data from this drive to your computer because this method will format the drive and erase all the data on the pen drive.
2. Now download the Apacer Formatting Utility, Unzip this utility to a folder on your hard disk, preferably on a folder on desktop screen for easy access (Do Not Try To Save it on pen drive). Keep your pen drive plugged in, and double click on the Start.bat file in the folder where you unzipped the above utility. This will start formatting your pen drive, wait till the formatting completes and the LED on your pen drive stops blinking. Remove your pen drive after than and plug it in again.
The above two steps will solve the problem. If you still face the problem, follow the below steps:
1. Goto Start > Run, type cmd and press enter, this will open command prompt.
2. Type the following command on the command prompt replacing X with the drive letter of your pen drive.
CHKDSK X: /F
The above two methods will help you fix the problem.
Note: For all those who are out of luck in fixing the problem with their portable drives, I would suggest you to get your drives checked or replaced by the manufacturer to fix it for you

Is there a hardware swich to give write protection? Any files or programs on your stick open? A restart can often solve most write protection bugs.

Usb drive not accessible or write protected error

Once you eliminated it just being a particular USB port (they go defective with wear), consider that your WinXP or whatever might be patched ...at all, basically... on that machine. It's rare that there's an OS issue, but Sandisk U3 is less readable on older Linux. Since you have cited neither USB drive model nor the OS you're using, that's the news; update the OS! Get Syllable or something decent, maybe.

PNY Write Protected

Check and see if you can copy and paste that file from it's location and place it on the desktop. Basically seeing if you can move that file within your PC. If this is a work computer, it might have precautions built-in to write protect it's documents. If you can move the file around in your computer then it's probably a problem with your flash drive. Can you copy anything to the drive?, such as a simple text file, music, etc. I'm also assuming that you checked the properties on the drive itself to make sure it wasn't locked. You could also try another flash drive to eliminate the possiblilty of your stick being defective.
Let me know how you do.

How do I fix a drm problem in windows media player 11

DRM, which specifies whether tracks copied from CDs in Windows Media Audio (WMA) format are protected files. A license, which helps protect the copyrights of artists by preventing unauthorized distribution, is required to play protected files.
If you're trying to play your copy-protected files on a new computer, you can migrate your protected music from one computer to another by doing the following:
Windows Media Player 7.1 or later
1.
Try to play the copy-protected file again.
2.
In the message that appears, click the More Information button.
3.
Follow the instructions for migrating your licenses.
Windows Media Player 7
1.
Download the Personal License Update Wizard for Windows Media Player (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0048.mspx)and follow the instructions.
2.
Try to play the copy-protected file again.
3.
In the message that appears, click the More Information button.
4.
Follow the instructions for migrating your licenses.
A license can be migrated ten times. After this limit is reached, you will receive an error when you try to migrate the license again (for more information, see the Windows Media Player FAQ). When this occurs, you will need to rip the file from the CD again.
note.gif Note If you still have the CD in your possession, you can rip the tracks from the CD again, but with copy protection turned off.
