Question about Welding Tools

1 Answer

Was doing some heavy welding when I suspect that the duty cycle overload came into effect and the machine stopped, The pilot light was still on but the machine would not work. Switched off the machine to cool down and was not used for a couple of days. When wanting to used it again there was no power. The pilot light doesn't even come on. Checked all fusues and they are ok. are there any other switches inside that may have to be activated to make it work again?. Appreciate your help.

First check that the breaker has not tripped tunr it off then back on. Then it it still does not work look at the cord going into the machine thee should be a reset button where the cable goes in, noramally there are two screws holding the pate on, if after reseting it if it does not work then you may have a fuse blown on the foot control. Hope this helps and thanks for using fix-ya. Would help to know the brand and modle to give you a better answer.

Is the mishto an ok welder for the hobbiest

There are several models and they look nice, they are not heavy duty units. They can weld up to 1/4 inch or about 5 mm. The thing you want to look for is duty cycle. That machine has 60% duty cycle at 160 AMPS. That means you can weld for 6 minutes at 160 Amps before you have to let the machine cool off.

Why does it work in all cycles except heavy duty?

I think I answered this before. Get an electrician to check the motor windings etc to see if there is a problem under load.

Craftsman 100ac infinant amp arc welder just stopped working ....the fan still runs. anybody know what's wrong with it????

probably over heated and blew the reset button
100 amp welders have a duty cycle ( time in actual welding use ) of less than 20%
that means for welding for five minutes you have to let it cool down for 20 minutes
the lower the amps the longer you can weld for
beware tat the total amperage of the welder does not mean that you can weld for a long time at that amperage
on the plate on the welder is the duty cycle and you have to be aware of it or the machine will shut down

Welder shuts off after a while of welding, what I am I doing wrong

Make sure you're not exceeding the duty cycle of the machine. Refer to your owners manual for the correct duty cycle to be sure.

The duty cycle is based in 10 minute increments. If your machine has a 60% duty cycle, you can safely weld for 6 minutes, then should allow the machine to cool off for the remaining 4 minutes. An 80% duty cycle allows for 8 minutes of use and 2 minutes of cooling, and so on.

The drive motor stopped running while welding. I shut it off and it has been off for five hours and the drive motor does not run. The solenoid inside the welder clicks when I hit the trigger on the torch...

You didn't indicate what model number machine you have. One must remember the smaller machines don't have a 100% duty cycle and can over heat. If your welding wire jams in the cable, or at the tip the drive motor can overload. Some models have a little reset button near the motor that can be reset if that is the problem.

My miller matic 35 welds and stops after about 2 inches let cool for about 30 to 40 sec and it welds again. fan runs

these need a good power supply , i looked and did not see the duty cycle on this welder if you are doing heavy welding 100% power it will need 30- 40 minutes to cool of to weld again. it all depends on the units duty cycle, stated on the welder spec plate ..can you bypass the auto feed speed mode ? this might be the issue.. good luck ..use all the protection you can when welding these are like the sun and can and will burn exposed skin and eyes .. if'n i was any help throw me a bone and vote thanks jay

Welding machine stops working after a few minutes of welding.

there is probley nothing wrong its called duty cycle.which means that if you are welding long periods or welding at max amps the welder will kickout to cool down.Look on your unit for the tag that tells imformation about your unit.It will show something like 30% duty cycle so that means you can weld 3 minutes at full power before the unit shuts down.

Some further checking indicated a bad transmission. As the unit is 15 years old, I decided the best solution was a new machine! ..
