The acer doesn't comes with the IDE socket so you will have to get the cable that allow this type of convertion to happen. Or it jus doesn't allow IDE drives any at all.

But there are cable that convert the IDE to SATA.

There are several possible jumper configurations on my mobo ash1 ash2 intri cmos and obr my acer aspire desktop m3100 won't boot at all I just installed a new psu & cpu

If you mean the plastic plug jumpers located on the hard drive to set master . master/slave ........
single or master :::::
master with slave ::'::
slave :::':
note the plastic jumper is ' located at the rear of the hard drive next to the IDE/SATA lead/s

The jumpers should be printed on top of the hard drive.
If its not booting at all it might be the ram or leads from motherboard to hard drive.

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA
the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide this will be the first to fail Make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd and floppy (If Applicable) have secure connections and are not faulty. or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Restart your computer During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key this will vary depending on your computer and operating system Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart This will set the boot order If this fails you might try some of these Acer: - Ctrl+Alt+Esc

ALR PC: (F2) or (Ctrl)(Alt)Esc)

AMI BIOS: (Del), (F1) or (F2)

AST, Advantage, Award, Tandon: - Ctrl + Alt + Esc

Award BIOS: (Del) or (Ctrl)(Alt)(Esc)

What are the correct connections for harddrive to motherboard??? on a Acer am5100-U5301A AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core. can't find connection diagram

It depends. Some (older) disk-drives use "IDE" (also called "parallel-ATA") 40-pin connectors.
Some (newer) disk-drives use "SATA" (also called "serial-ATA") connectors.
So, look on the motherboard for "IDE1" and "IDE2" ports, and/or for "SATA1/SATA2/SATA3/SATA4" ports.

I have a acer aspire t180 desktop with a 250gb hitachi scsi (ide) hd. I would like to know which hard drives are compatible so that I can exchange it. thanks

It's a SATA harddrive, not SCSI.

Serial ATA

Acer Support > Aspire T180 > Specifications >

Will use up to a 400GB SATA harddrive according to Acer.

IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics.
Another name is PATA.
Parallel ATA
Used to distinguish between IDE and SATA.

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI

Exchange it?
Your harddrive has the Operating System on it.
A new harddrive will not have an O/S on it.
(Windows XP is an example of an O/S)

It would be much easier to install the harddrive you wish into an external enclosure, and plug the external enclosure's USB cable into your T180.

One example of a desktop size harddrive SATA external enclosure,
(3.5 inch SATA external enclosure.
3 and 1/2 inches across in width, for a desktop harddrive.
Laptop HD's are 2.5)

Will an IDE DVD Burner work on my Acer Aspire E380 desktop. The hard drive is a SATA but the burner looks like an IDE and has belt cables. I need to replace my DVD burner and not sure what type of burner...

Yes, all you need is a IDE (Pata) to IDE (Sata) converter.

If you're replacing it, just make sure you get one with the correct interface, judging by what you sat SATA.

Replace hdd in acer aspire rc500

Replacing a hard drive can be time consuming, but you gain knowledge in the process. Is it a newer SATA or SATAII drive or the older IDE drive? They're both pretty easy as long as you set up for an external boot device before you pull it out. We'll have to go more into specifics when I hear from you next.

Cd/dvd drivers missing on vista 32 install

The best way to find out if you need SATA or IDE is to open the case and look. If you have gray cables about one-inch wide with a red line on one side then that is IDE. They are parallel cables. If you have anything else then it is SATA which is a serial cable. I have never been to the Acer Website but I know on Dell, HP, etc. they have a place under support and drivers that you can go. Type in your model number and download the drivers. I don't know if you have another computer to do it, but unfortunately if your restore disk do not work then that is where you will have to go...also see if you can contact someone at Acer and find out why your restore disk do not work. I have wiped my hard drive clean and I was still able to re-install the revovery disk.....Hope this helps.
