Annoying solution, but works every time. Remove the ENTIRE bobbin casing from the base and then turn the wheel. The needle should lift right out. Reassemble bobbin casing and oil very well.

This generally only happens when you are sewing through several layers of fabric or though a thick fabric. If you are doing neither, the timing in your machine may be off and you will need to get it repaired.

All of a sudden handwheel froze up.

Is it a mechanical machine (not computerized)? If so it has probably frozen from lack of oil during the time that it was not in use.

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

When I move the arm and needle over, why doesn't the arm go down?

Arm and needle? Sounds like a turntable, not a sewing machine. There's typically a 'cueing lever' that controls up/down. Pull that lever forward and down to lower needle to record.

Why is my needle not moving?

open the end cover of the machine and see if the needle shaft is moving up or down
it is possible that a screw has come loose or an arm has broken

Sewing Machine froze up

it's very possible that the machine jumped time, even tho the needle didn't
break, it's possible that the needle bent.
the machine needs to be retimed at a sewing machine shop.

I have a Finesse sewing machine and I was sewing some placemats but it suddenly stopped feeding the material although it keeps sewing (foot moves up and down). According to the book I have checked the...

Can you see the feed dogs moving?

un thread, raise the pressure foot then manually turn the flywheel towards you and watch the feed dogs (the teeth that move under the needle plate). If they are not moving around and coming up above the needle plate then one of two things:
either you've accidentially disengaged the feed dogs, check the manual for instructions to reengage, sometimes a knob, button or slide, often on the front base or around the back of the free arm.

If they are engaged but not moving up at all, then something has gone in the drive to them, usually a gear in the free arm area. In which case, take to the shop for repair.

My sewing machine clutch knob won't release so I can wind the bobbin without the needle going up and down. It used to release and suddenly froze. How can I release it?

Try taking a hair dryer to it and see if that will free it up. Sometimes heat can make things move. If, it is old, you have nothing to lose taking the cover off and seeing if a belt slipped off or a broken part is in there.

New singer 8280 needle hits overcasting foot and breaks

so, it sews for a while?  It sounds to me like the screw that holds the needle in place is loose.  As the needle moves up and down the screw loosens until that one fateful stitch, it comes out completely.  Try to tighten with a screw driver.
the other possibility is that it breaks if you are sewing over a bulky seam, like a flat fell.  as the presser foot "toes up" to go over the lump, the needle hits and there you are.
holler if that doesn't help.
