Hi, I'm afraid, it is problem of blue picture tube in your tv that will be replaced to solve this problem. Since tv is an old model so it is quite possible that blue picture tube would not be available any more, call local tv repair shop for blue picture tube replacement, if available somewhere, as it is not user level fix and experienced tech can do it. Thanks.
This is blue CRT problem in tv as it is rear projection tv that has three CRTs red-green-blue inside to project color picture on front screen. Blue CRT (tube) will be replaced to fix the issue and it is job of Pro because lots of adjustments are required after replacement of tube. Local tv repair shop will help you for that. Thanks
when it goes green, your green picture tube is shorting out, replaceing the green tube costs alot of money. these sony's had alot of bad tubes, the red and blue are probably going out too, it will cost alot to fix this, at least $500 even if you find good used picture tubes to put in it.
The blue picture tube has gone bad. Sadly they are no longer availible for that unit. But the blue tube assembly can be sent back to a company called Video Display. They rebuild the tube for a very reasonable price. The hitch is that it takes a professional tv tech to reinstall and align the rebuilt tube. Most respectable shops will do this work but the repair is spendy. Usually around $450 to $500 or more.
Go to the following link and leave your model number in a email and list which tube you need, they have access to just about any new replacement tube that you need for Sonys. they dont list them all, but leave a email I am sure they will have what you need.Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you have a shorted red picture tube.It is not at all uncommon on sony rear projection. The gun shorts and the set identifies the problem and goes into shutdown. Usually there are diagonal lines in the picture before it shuts down. this is an unfortunate problem because this set delivers a great picture. The dealer cost of the tube is around $200. When the repair is complete your're probably looking at $400-$600.
The only problem is that the green tube and the blue tube also have chance of having the same problem. It'a tough call . But from my experience , I have replaced the green tube and
had the blue tube goe within a year. Scrivitron
