Hi, you should not need to format your new hard drive, they arrive ready to use. If you require the format just plug you device in, go to hard drives where there is an option to format or repair

Help how to format lenovo ideapad s300 in windows 7

If you want to format your entire hard drive (and reinstall windows) You'll need to insert the appropriate windows disk. If you want to reinstall 7, insert your windows 7 disk and boot off of the disk (When booting, it should start by showing a screen that says "Press any key to boot from CD..." and you can just press a key on your keyboard. From there, follow the on screen instuctions. When you get to the drive partitioning step, select your hard drive and partition you want to format. You can delete the partition you have and make a new one if you want to totally clean the computer (WARNING: This will literally delete everything on your computer. Everything). From there you continue and finish the setup (it may run for a while). And you have a fesh new hard drive and operating system install.

I want to format my c drive with the help of Dos command prompt , installed win 7 ultimate.

Formatting hard drive When booting from a Windows installation CD select the option to install Windows then you (can either delete the existing partition/s then create a new partition then you) can format the hard disk. After formatting the hard disk you can abort the Windows installation if you do not want proceed to install Windows.
You should be able to use the Windows 7 installation CD to delete the existing partition, create a new partition and format the new partition and then install Windows 7.

Hi,

If I understand you correctly you had a previous operating system installed on one hard drive and you just now installed Windows 7 but on a separate drive? When you boot the machine if gives you two boot options, the old OS and the NEW OS?

What your going to have to do is format the drive(erase) that contains the old operating system. Format as NTFS.

Try unplugging the old drive, making sure the new drive is set to master and not slave. Boot up the computer.
When you boot up your computer you should immediately get options. One of these options should say "press delete for bios" or press "f6 for settings" You need to go into the bios and make sure the drive with Windows 7 is set to your primary drive in the boot order(hard drive should be first in boot list). We want the computer to boot to the new drive first.

Once you get into Windows you can use a program like partition magic to format the old drive to use as just storage space. You can even use "diskpart' which is an old windows command line utility.

If you reinsert the Windows Disk when you are booting up you will get some recovery options, and if I recall correctly one of these should let you format hard drive space. So, you may be able to do it from there.

Where exactly does the error come up in the boot process? Are you able to boot into safe mode? It may be easier for you to just reinstall Windows 7. If you boot the computer with the disk in the drive, and the BIOS set to boot first to the disk, then during the installation configuration you should be able to have Windows just format the old drive to use as space and install the MBR on the new drive.

there are no drivers required for a hard drive.
Windows 7 should automatically detect the new hard drive and it should show up in disk management to format or prompt you to format.
Check your cable connections again.
Otherwise your new hard drive may be DOA. Return it to the store that you purchased from.

How do I format my new Seagate 500GB FreeAgent GoFlex Hard Drive to Fat32 for use with Xbox 360? I am using Windows 7 and when I open up the formatting options only NTFS and exFAT are available.

Windows Disk Management can only format a hard drive less than 32 GB to FAT32. If you want to format your 500GB drive to Fat 32, you need to use third party program like AOMEI Partition Assistant. http://www.disk-partition.com/free-partition-manager.html
