Either your thinkpad is not sending out the signals or have weak signals to pick up the network. Go over the settings make sure its set up right. See if the thinkpad recieve any signals any at all from any where..

No network driver installed on my IBM 390x 2626-lou. Where con I get the driverdownload and remember I cant connect the computer to the internet.

do you have a friend or neighbor with internet connection? if so, then ask them to go to the IBM site and download the driver to a flash drive or a CD. you will be able to install it from either device. you may need your model number and serial number to get the right driver.
if your local library allows downloads, then you can search IBM yourself and load it to a Flash drive.

Need a pc card for wireless internet connect.Have tried netgear does not work in computer. any suggestion. model of computer 570e imb thinkpad. old computer work great but need internet connection. thanks

You can order pretty much any PCMCIA Wireless network adapter. If the machine is older, you may want to try the "802.11g" or "802.11n" wireless notebook network card.
Try Belkin F5D7010, it uses the "g" signal band.

Neighbor bought an IBM ThinkPad 390X 2626LOU. Can it be made wireless, or will only dial-up work? If so could you give me advice as to how.

Does it have a PCIMIA slot? (I might have spelled that wrong) Does it have a USB ... either will facilitate installation of a wireless feature. It is XP or newer?

Get the equipment you need at the Big Box Store in your area.

IBM THINKPAD T43. I can find the switch for my ibm thinkpad T43

Are you sure you have a wire card installed? If so, then try this:
  1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab and press the Device Manager button. The network card should appear under Network Adapters.
Note: If the card has a exclamation mark over a yellow background, then this is an indication that the card is experiencing a problem. Go to Driver download step 5.
  1. Verify that the radio is enabled.
It is possible to disable the transmitter of the wireless card without Device Manager showing any problems.
Note: Follow the instructions provided to enable wireless card.
    • Most wireless cards will put an icon in the system tray (the line of icons in the lower right corner of your screen). Right click this icon and it may have a menu option to enable/turn on the wireless radio.
    • Some systems come with a Wireless Radio switch to disable the wireless radios. The wireless radio switch is usually located on the front side of the machine. If you are having difficulties with wireless connections, make sure the Wireless Radio switch is set in the On position.

  2. Check for association to an Access Point.
If you double-click the previously mentioned system tray icon, the configuration utility of the wireless card will appear. This utility will be able to show the status of the wireless card, showing what channel the card is using and what signal strength is being received. It may be difficult to maintain a connection if signal strength is low due to either interference or distance. For example, interference can be caused by 2.4GHz cordless phones, other Access Points in the area, and physical structures such as load bearing walls or metal partitions.
    Note:
The utility can be used to configure the wireless card settings, but if using Windows XP Zero Configuration or Access Connections, you will need to use those programs to actually configure the wireless card as they will overwrite the setting of the utility.

if you tried to install the belkin usb wireless adapter, what might be happening is that the device is searching for the driver and stopping your desktop from loading, so remove the usb dongle and do a system restore to the day before your problem if necassary. Make sure that you install the belkin software first then connect the adapter whe prompted as sometimes the driver can be a bit tricky to install.
