Question about Mitsubishi WD-52631 52" Projection HDTV

1 Answer

No picture or sound

TV worked fine last night, but today it has no picture or sound. When I power it on, after the standard into blinking, I hear the fan go on, the whine of the TV powering on, but no picture (even blank blue screen) comes up, and no sound is present. After about a minute of the fan starting and stopping the TV turns itself off. I tried unplugging it from the wall for a bit as well as the system reset, but there has been no change.

Hi,

Turn the set on, then when it shuts down, press the INPUT and MENU buttons (maybe DEVICE and MENU on your set) on the front panel together and hold them down for at least 6 seconds. This should cause the front LED to flash a 2 digit code.

If it flashes 2 blinks, then pause and then 2 blinks -The error code is 22.One thing is certain that this is a hardware failure and needs repair.

You need to have electronic repair experience, you should know how to use schematics, could use multimeter and soldering iron and you need to keep all precautions.

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The results of the diagnostic was a 12. So, from the sound of it this isn't just a burned out bulb? I haven't had one go out before, so don't know what the symptoms should be.

    Thanks for your response!!

    How old is the unit?

    How many LED's are blinking?

If there are more LED's blinking, kindly let me know the name of the LED's?

Only the Timer LED is on, and it stays solid with no blinking, at least after the typical blinking that it does while it warms up. Once it comes on, the LED stays lit with no blinking until the TV shuts off after about a minute. While it is on, there is no picture and sound. I hear the fan spin up like normal along with the other sounds it typically makes when powering on, and then there is a clicking sound for a bit, then the fan turns off. Its then silent for a few seconds before the fan turns on again, it does the clicking again, and then it turns off.

This set is probably around 3.5 years old.

    Thanks for your response!!

Error 12 refers to ' No Error Detect ',

This situation is usually due to faulty caps in the dm, power supply and fmt. Lamp could be a problem. However, more often it is highly suggestive of faulty caps.

If you want to repair it, let me know and i would be able to tell you few pointers.

Thank you very much for your help. So, in your opinion, simply buying a new bulb is unlikely to fix the problem? I don't really want to buy a $150 lamp and find out it still doesn't work. If this is indeed broken, I'm inclined to just replace it since there is a minor scratch on the screen and plasmas and LCDs are pretty reasonable priced these days.

    Thanks for your response!!

It would be a gamble that might or might not work. I know, these monsters very well and i have seen these problems many times due to caps. I would not advise you to take out $150 as i am pretty sure that there is some more issues.Rather than this, it is better to call a tech who would take around $45 - $50 visit charge.

Wish i could have helped you much more. However, without looking and inspecting, it is hard to diagnose these monsters.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope
    i helped you.

Thanks again for your assistance. Out of curiosity, if a bulb simply blew out, would the TV work/not work as it currently does, or would it still at least have sound?

    Thanks for your response!!

You would hear sound. That's the reason i never suggested you not to take a gamble as it could be a multiple failure as well.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope
    i helped you.

Was working fine last night ,went to turn it on and you can hear a buzzing by where you plug in your jacks a bee,or high pitch sound.tv has no picture or sound.only sound you hear is this buzzing

Sounds like your power supply is causing the problem. Unplug the TV wait 10 minutes, look in the back for a red button (circuit breaker) push it in. If this does not work you have a low voltage power supply fault.

Tv no sound no pictures power light blinking

There are a couple of things you could check on this one if you have the equipment and are somewhat skilled in electronics.
Take a test meter if you have one, if not try the local radio shack. Unplug the set and remove the back. Locate F802 a small pico fuse in the SMPS 4a/125v. Test this for open - if open replace it...
Next locate Q472 ( 2SC1740 ) a common NPN amp transistor which will cross to NTE85 in a pinch. This transistor is in the shutdown circuit and if it's failed usually causes the conditions you have there..
Try at least these, and if anything here sounds the slightest complicated take it to a shop - it should be a rather inexpensive repair...
