Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Most likely the OS was corrupted preventing such actions to be initialized nor executed. Since all data were lost there is nothing to hold on to on the PS3 so formatting the hard drive will not be a problem. After formatting the HDD the system will be restored to its original factory state and have to install the latest firmware available. Once these were done it should be able to play your media.
