Question about Magellan RoadMate™ 1212 Car GPS Receiver

1 Answer

My mighty Magellan is dead.

During recent trip it came on saying the battery was critically low. So, we plugged it in. Magellan screen displayed something about plugging a usb cord into it but it was the car charger that we plugged in. We shut everything down then unplugged and waited a minute. Then we started again and the same screen came up. It also seemed like it was not accepting the charge even though it was plugged in and the blue light was on. Kept trying to solve the problem but the Magellan died. Now what do I do? Kim

My battery is dead and wont recharge. The orange light comes on briefly then goes out completely.

You have a blown capacitor. You will need to open it up, find the capacitor (the top will be convex instead of flat) and replace it. It is delicate work, so only do it if you are familiar with this kind of work. Otherwise, find a friend who is good at repairing sensitive electronics.

the following advice pertains to the following magellan gps systems.

Magellan 800, 860, 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3050, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050, 5310 and 6000t

i fix these and many other magellan gps daily so when considering my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.

assuming your car charger is working (the little green light is on) and your magellan still wont start up after holding the power button while its plugged in for up to ten seconds and still does not start..read below

this is actually a very common problem with these magellan power ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then the factory port.

if your able to replace that power port yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that sells them for help.

due to some dubious "experts" on fixya, im not permitted to help you directly, but please follow the link above to get further help.

My Magellan Maestro 3210 constantly says low battery while on trip and shutoff, I have it plugged into the astray why would the battery be low, how do I get it off battery power setting, or why is it doing...

Usually when you see low battery like that it means the battery itself needs to be replaced at it can't hold a charge or enough of a charge to be usefull. If you unit is over 18-24 months old then th e battery is most likely the problem. This will happen even if you have always used external power as the battery doesn;t get properlly cycled enough.

It is possible that it is the power source you are using is too low but sounds more like the battery is the problem.

If you have warrenty the battery should be replaced by Magellan. If not a replacement battery is about $30 and is something you may be able to do. You need to remove the back cover and unplug the old battery and plug in the new one and put it all back together.

Here is one link for a battery but there are other just search for Maestro 3210 battery with google or bing and you should find a few places that offer them.

I can't tell if my magellan maestro 4000 gps is charging.

this could be happening for a few reasons but the most common is that its probably not charging.

before checking anything else, plug your 4000 in to a known good charger, then press and hold the power button for up to ten seconds till it starts.

if that fails, its likely not charging

this is very common problem with this and many model magellans.

the following magellan 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050 and the 6000 are known to have faulty dc connectors...if your magellan gps is not charging or will not power up, its most likely the dc power port...

you can get help to repaired it, here
or buy the port here

if you need further help, just let me know.
