Problem openning door

We have a sub zero model 642 side by side refirgerator. When the door has been openned and then we try to open the door again a short while later, it feels as though there is a strong suction holging the door shut and it is really difficlut to pull it open. Do you know what would be causing this? It only started recently.

When you close the door a reverse cycle fan sucks all the waisted air the fridge has just been exposed to out of the unit so it creates a good seal around the door rubbers this is perfectly normal .

Hi,
If you have an overlay door, by removing the door handles, should be about 6-8 screws located when you open the door look at the handle, you should see these screws run top to bottom.

I hope this helps.

LCD panel and lights not working

On your Sub-Zero 642 Your display will not work unless your refrigerator lights work.
1st. Make sure your light bulbs are good.
2nd. Check your refrigerator door light switch.
3rd. The subzero uses a thermal overload to kill your lights if the door is left open to long.

It is your evaporator fan. When the door opens power is cut to the fan motor.

How do you tighten a loose handle of the fridge door? Sub zero 642

I have the Sub Zero 650. I am not sure if yours iworks same but what you do is use a 3/32 Allen wrench; as you push the handle into the screw on the door so that it is flush, you insert the Allen wrench in the hole at the bottom of the short vertical connector at top and tighten; repeat for upper or lower part of handle.

Has the ambient temp around the unit been going up? Depending on what refrigerant you have here the pressure temp relationship will change in the system, also when you add foodstuff, and again when you open the door.

Cannot reopen Sub-Zero 642 freezer door for 50 seconds

Yes, this is normal.  My 642 does the same thing. It seals to be more efficient while trying to cool back down after it has lost heat while open.

New 642 freezer door is very hard to open due to seal sticking

If the seal or seating area is sticky, wash it with warm water. If it isn't, this is just the sign of a good refrigerator. As the air cools, it becomes more dense and creates a vacuum inside the compartment. With a pliable new door seal which is sealing well, combined with a large door, this can cause a great seal with alot of pressure pulling on it. Smile, this is why your consumers bill will be much better with that new sub-z.

Refrig lights go on and off intermittently when opening and closing refrig door

check door light switch with ohmmeter. Check for melted insulation near light "terminator". Look for wiring diagram in ziplock behind compressor grille. Second switch at door turns compressor off when door opened. I had these problems with a 695 which I would assume is probably similar in design.

Sub Zero 642 - Gasket on the Door is really HOT

That is normal and is designed that way to keep moisture from forming water drops on the door seals. The "old days" used electric heaters but most now use the heat from the compressor liquid. If it's really hot you may have dust all over the condensor coils and should be cleaned to reduce the compressors heat output. Other than that, it's normal operations!
