Question about LG WM1814CW Front Load Washer
Looking at top cover from rear of the washer---there are two white plastic tabs with 4 Phillips screws. Remove only the bottom 2 screws--one from each side--and leave the remaining top screws attached.
Grasp the top cover of the washer at one corner with both hands and squeeze towards the rear--some are fairly tight but it will slide rearward. Wipe all dust from the top for a better grip. Wearing rubber coated gloves helps too. After the top moves back about two or three inches--lift up to remove.
The door gasket can be inspected from the front with a good flashlight. I run my fingers full circle to feel for holes or tears.
The area of the leak is near the drain motor/pump assembly. Make sure that the pump strainer is tightly closed---but not overly tight---it has an o-ring seal. On a few older LG washers---the drain hose may have a perforation from vibration. This not very common but I will come across this one or twice a year.
After removing the top cover---look for any obvious origin of the leak during a test cycle. If it's possible--remove the back service panel and look toward the drain pump area for water leakage. Use care not to touch the spinning motor unit--try to observe from a distance with a bright light.
This type of small leak is due to incorrect type of detergent or too much of the correct/HE detergent. This can cause suds to ooze out of the rear tub air vent. Later the suds revert back to full liquid and the water can be seen at the front of the washer if the floor has a slight slope.
Correct use is as follows:
HE: (2) Tablespoons Per Washload
HE 2X: (1) Tablespoon
HE 3X: (1) Teaspoon
