SOURCE: My ceiling fan, model, 5745, has a broken switch.

ANy electric store will have different switches (lowes and home depot do too) just make sure you bring the old one with you. The colors of the wires shouldn't make too much of a difference just the amount

SOURCE: Ceiling fan has the normal

Do NOT attempt to connect this fan to this ceiling box!

In the USA, a color code is employed to quickly alert the electrician about the voltages found in circuits. Black, red & blue insulated wires with a white colored neutral wire indicates a standard residential 120 / 240 volt system. Brown, orange and yellow wires with a gray colored neutral on the other hand, indicates a common commercial or industrial 277 / 480 volt system.

Since I don't know where you live, but it could be the USA (or other country that also observes this color scheme for system voltage identification), I urge you to contact a qualified electrician. If you insist of checking it out yourself, please exercise EXTREME caution. Accidental contact with 277 volts will burn and most likely kill in an instant.

If it is determined to in fact be a 277 / 480 volt system, the fan you selected will not be able to be connected to this circuit as it is a 120 volt fixture. Connection will result in damage, fire or worse.

I hope this helps. Please rate my reply - thank you!

SOURCE: My ceiling fan, model, 5745, has a broken switch.

I tried the Home depot stores and Lowes Stores solutions years ago and found out the switches are too different to work everytime.

If anyone needs switches or capacitors for ceiling fans that are hard to find, I can help. I have a source for them, I also have photos for the wiring color codes for the Shine top 102

The reverse switch usually is in the lamp housing directly under the motor. With a vaulted ceiling installation, you would need to use a ladder to get access to the switch

Hunter ceiling fan remote will not turn off light it just dims the light

Try this. Remove power from the fan. Remove batteries from the remote. Press butttons on remote (might be stuck). Apply power to the fan. Install batteries in the remote and try all functions. If this doesn't work, the remote may be defective or the remote receiver may be defective. I can tell you from my own experience I have a ceiling fan that loses its mind whenever there is a power outage. Has to be reeducated from scratch

Signs of a bad capacitor in a ceiling fan include:

  • Fan runs slowly or not at all on all speeds
  • Fan will not start but will spin if started by hand
  • Certain speeds are slow or do not work
  • The motor hums and turns freely by hand but will not spin

The capacitor is usually a black box inside the switch housing of the fan. If this box appears burnt or melted in any way, that is also the sign of a bad capacitor and it should be replaced.

    Lemon chain switch

To get a free switch you will have to take it out and take it back to where you bought it and they will replace it or just take the whole thing back and get a brand new one because of the switch. thats the only way you will get a free switch.

Hunter ceiling fan-just installed -possible speed control problem

Sounds like the fan is defective. All internal wiring from the switch to the motor is factory installed. The fan has power going to it. Just to make sure, double check the wiring from the ceiling fixture to the fan.
Problem could be a faulty switch on the fan or faulty motor(bad winding for med. speed). Try reverse switch on the fan to operate the opposite direction and see if medium speed works. If medium does work in opposite direction, it pretty much points to a defective fan. In any case, unless you discover that the ceiling wires were reversed going into the fan, I'd say new fan to the returns dept.

It sounds like the direction switch has a broken connection on the "reverse" side.  Should be an easy fix (but you might need a soldering iron).

Ceiling fan does not reverse with remote

Just reporting that I called Hampton Bay about the remote not working to reverse the fan. I was told that I needed to have the fan running on low and then press reverse on the remote control. If that doesn't work, customer service told me to press reverse while running the fan on medium. (Some fans are set to reverse on low and others on medium.) Nowhere in the manual is this addressed. I had been pressing reverse with the fan turned off, which seemed to me a logical thing to do. Live and learn.
