Unplug everything. take out battery, leave out 10 sec. put back in. if it still dont work. hit with hammer, but first stick a pin in the hole, by the button you push to get out CD, DVD. ECT.... and get out your disk.

When I turn the power on it starts up but just shuts down ten seconds later and keeps starting up and shutting down over and over again

This may be a hard drive issue, remove the hard drive and power up the computer it should show the HP logo and go to black screen with a blinking cursor, turn off and re-seat the hardware back in place and restart the laptop, any change? if the same, reload the recovery disc if available this will prove if it's a software issue or hard disc problem. If there is no improvement the hard drive should be pulled and tested at a computer shop before buying a replacement.

My hp compac come on powers up, but will not go on line, will not recognize the disc drive , will not recognize any USB ports and when I go to shut down, it will sit on the "shutting down" screen for...

just a mobo huh, no PC, there.
so what PC did it come out of???? HP what? desktop .

turns on, ok
will not recognize the disk, (what disk? what drive, what disk,??)
floppy, PATA HDD, SATA HDD, or CD drive.?

will not recognize, USB ports. (in BIOS or in Tne OS)
what OS, windows 3.1? what/? what Operating System??????
what OS will not shut down, and installed by whom and what media>?

take this unstated PC and install the OS, as it came new.
This PC is so old its not supported by HP, now.
so find and install disk (media) and re-Install the OS.

there it is, Google fails to find the match to any HP PC model name.
HP has zero data on it, now, its too old.

Hello Guys 1010us pavilion dv5 model when I play games it shuts down. So yesterday while watching Youtube it shutted down again. And blue screen is appearing and it shows that there is a problem with hdd...

Well if you got an error related to the hard drive then its better to check the hard drive whether is faulty or not..

1.Shut the system down.
2.Restart the system and tap on the F10 key for while till we dont get to the set up utility.
3.As soon as we get to the BIOS screen try locating an optionw which reads as DIAGNOSTICS, it would be the third option at the top,
4.Select that option using the arrow keys on the keyboard and hit enter.
5.It would show us an option which reads as Primary Hard drice self test..
6.Hit enter again to start the test.
7.There are 2 types of tests.
8.As soon as we start the test it would start the SHORT TEST first which would take a couple of minutes.
9.If it comes with any errors then call hp and ask them to replace the hard drive.
10.If the short test passes and the comprehensive test starts then let that test run completely which might take an hour as well..
11.If this test goes fine then the hard drive is fine and you are facing trouble because of the graphices card installed on the system.
12. I am providing you a couple of drivers which you can try installing depending on the operating system installed on the system.but you need to first check the hard drive and then perform these steps..

I believe the system was shipped with a 64 Bit Vista which NVIDIA graphics card.

I am providing you the drivers for that

You can also try to update the BIOS which would the next step if the above steps does not help..

Hope this works

I want to re install xp but it says setup did not finf any harddi

It sounds to me like the reason your computer has crashed is because your hard drive has failed, or possibly that your boot sector is corrupted.
Try holding down the F8 key when you turn it on. A recovery screen should appear. A full factory reset will result in lost data. Just follow the instructions. If the screen doesn't appear, your hard drive is suspect.

My hp 530 doesn't post at all, behaviour is the same whether has ram, hard drive or dvd drive inserted or not

Hp has had problems with video chip getting hot and making a weak connection to the MB. By your pulling the ram,HDD and DVD drive you've helped narrow it down. If you have a wireless card you can try and start it up without that but I'd imagine the results will be the same. I'll have to guess the power button only illuminates momentarily then goes right back off. If this isn't happening is it possible you damaged the power connection on your MB and the battery failed to charge and now the power adapter can't get power to it either (does the charge light come on) when the AC adapter is plugged in ?

HP 530 Notebook will shut off by its self and when you restart it and will show you that windows was not shut down properly. Could it need a new battery?

The problem lies with the power supply system either in the power adopter or inside the laptop. When AC power is plugged in, the system shows that the battery is being charged (Yellow Light Indicator switches ON) but practically niether the battery is usually being charged nor the computer is being run by the AC power. Its a little bit of energy left in the battery that keeps running you computer for some time and as soon as the battery is discharged the note book shuts down by itself.
However, the Taskbar battery indicator gives the correct picture of battery charge and the charging process. Better rely on that.
Its a hardware problem pertaining to power supply and charging system and doesn't have to do any thing with Mother board, RAM, Hard disks or other hardware installed in the PC.
Do tell the above details to a repair workshop man to rectify the problem.... Best of Luch
