Question about EuroCave Refrigerators

3 Answers

Twisted Case: I recently acquired a vintage E170, 160/180 bottle, 3-temperature EuroCave which appears to be in good condition except the entire case is slightly twisted. The door is accurately flat and is aligned correctly on the hinge side, but on the handle side the opening is about 3/4" wider at the top than at the bottom. I can manually twist the case enough to close that gap, but of course it springs back when I let go (and the problem has nothing to do with the way the feet sit on the floor). Any suggestions?

Wow, could be a tough one here. There could be a sprung, broken support inside, that would be really hard to fix. One easier solution might be to adapt a wall support to exert sideways pressure to help or make up the gap. If you try to spring the whole unit too far back, there is a chance of doing more damage, so I wouldn't suggest that. If you try to make a wall-supporting bracket, you may have to anchor the other side, in possibly the middle of the unit, to allow a sideways torque. Sounds like a nice unit, hope you get it operational.

Hello,

There is supposed to be a screw that is holding the case together so it will not spring up back after you have manually twisted the case to close the gap.

Try to look for a way to get the cast hooked up together. you can try using a drill to drill that part and put in a screw there to hold the case together. If you can do this, the spring wont be too free to spring the case back open.

I hope this technique works for you.

Take care

What would be the value of my vintage watch?

It looks like a gold filled case and of course it's a standard wind. I would put a value on your watch if it is in running order of $100.00. This may not be what you could get for it but if it was being sold in good running condition that would be a fair price. Hope this helps, gabe.

What does the term vintage mean in regards to wine?

The vintage is the year found on a bottle of wine indicating the harvest year of the grapes from which the wine was made. Vintage year characteristics are primarily determined by weather conditions from that year. This is where the phrase "the '75 was an excellent year" came from.

The freezer is not getting cold. Recently, I replaced the fan motor and it is running and blowing good. I turned the temperature alarm setting to the off position because it will sound due to the warm...

I would replace the defrost termination thermostat. They were a frequent failure item on
Frigidaire units I service, causing this condition. Around 8 to 20 dollars depending on
vendor. Also check the defrost timer as I have found at least one that was stuck due to
mis assembly. (the replacements are from a different vendor). Hope this helps.

Garmin 260w won't acquire satellites

If a device is used daily it should be able to acquire satellites in a minute or less. Using a GPS device while it is outdoors with a clear view of the entire sky is the ideal condition for acquiring satellites. Please know that there can be several different factors that may cause a GPS unit to not acquire satellites:
  • If your unit is trying to acquire satellites for the first time, it may take longer than normal to establish an initial position. If the unit is powered on and outdoors with a clear view of the sky this should not take more than 3-5 minutes.
  • If your unit has not been used for an extended period of time (more then a month), it may take 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites.
  • If your unit is indoors, it may not acquire satellites. Even standing next to a window indoors will block a majority of the sky which is needed for a device to locate and lock onto a satellite signal.
  • If you have just finished updating the software in your unit or you have performed a master reset, your unit may take 3-5 minutes to acquire while outdoors as the data that is used to locate satellites may have been erased.
  • If your unit has traveled over 500 miles while turned off or not tracking your travel, it may take 3-5 minutes to acquire even in ideal conditions.
  • If your vehicle has a protective coating on its windshield or electronic devices which interfere with the unit receiving signal, your unit may need an external antenna* in order to acquire satellites.
    • If you suspect this to be an issue, try taking the unit outside of the vehicle with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes so that the unit can acquire satellites. If your unit loses satellites once moved back into your vehicle you will most likely need an external antenna*.
If your unit is still having trouble acquiring satellites, please ensure that it has the latest version of operating software by using our WebUpdater program. Once your unit is updated please allow the unit to acquire satellites outdoors in a stationary position with a clear view of the sky.

Eurocave digital thermometer

The digital temperature display on the EuroCave has a small lithium battery that can be replaced by removing the bezel around the display. This was all that was needed to solve the problem.

My transfer case has started to leak from a small weep hole on the passenger side of the rear case, just above the fill plug area It appears to be leaking out only when driving the truck -- Any idea why...

The internal oil pump has worn through the case - poor design i was told by the transmission shop. Talk to them, they see it all the time. I just replaced mine last fall except i had to rebuild the entire transfer case after it locked up. The half case is only about $300, my rebuild was about $2000 after neglecting the problem.

Radiator problem, I think?

Not likely, but you can flush the entire system, and that would give you an indicator of the condition the engine is in internally. Smell the overflowing coolant, if it has a burned or exhaust like smell, you need to look at your engine gaskets.(Cyl Head gasket) especially. in a worse case scenerio, the heads themselves may need to be looked at. When you get a cracked head, you typically get a condition where the pressure the engine makes, pushes to coolant back through the system end up in the overflow bottle. I love jeeps, so good luck with this repair.
