Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

See my previous question concernint installing a Belkin Wireless Router. I followed your solution and proceeded to try to again install . - I inserted the disc and started the setup and installation. I receive the message that there is a current version running. Do I want to close. I replied Yes. The wizard opens - next the Belkin Setup window with the license agreement. I selected "I accept" and click next. The computer Opens Uninstall Status and uninstalling the Belkin router and then Starts the Install set up. Nothing more happens. It acts like the installation is complete. What do I do to go through the complete set up procedure. It appears to be trying installing only an update to the system. Help. Lois Stewart 618-747-2208

I am sorry, we are not allowed to view the previous premium questions, but I hope this will help you how to set up your router.
Follow the instructions provided below;

1: First of all, Connect the cable or DSL modem directly to your computer. If I am right, you'll see a log-in screen for your Internet Service Provider, make a note of the user name and password (since this is usual for home internet users).

2: Now, unplug your Router and your cable or DSL modem.

3: Plug in your modem to your Router's "WAN" port. Connect your computer to one of your Router's numbered Ethernet ports.

4: Turn on in your modem and wait few seconds (10 seconds approx). Plug in your router and restart your computer.

5: Now select "Start," >> "Control Panel" >> "Network Connections." Right-click "Local Area Connection" and select "properties".

6: Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)," then "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and then "Obtain DNS Server Addresses Automatically."

7: Open your web browser. If you are prompted for a user name and password, enter the information you recorded in 1st step (if you are not prompted, you can start browsing the internet).

If this doesn't help you, please let me know with the details of your Belkin Router. Since you only mentioned "Belkin Wireless Router" i am giving this instructions as a general instruction for Belkins routers. Thanks.

Good luck.

I had to put my computer back to factory settings and now my Belkin wont go on wireless. It does work if i plug cable in.Is there anything i can do?

HI,
I see you set Windows back to defaults as you mentioned and now your Router will not go Wireless.
First Restoring Windows Back to Factory Defaults will not reset your Routers Settings to Defaults together with Windows.
So Most Probably the issue is since you restored windows back to factory defaults you may need to install the Wireless Driver again on the Machine / Computer to make your computers wireless card work again and be able to detect and connect to your Belkin Router.
try a difefernt device that can connect wireless to your Router or maybe a different Laptop to see if the Belkin is working fine wireless.
If any other Laptop will not detect the Belkin then try turning the Wireless Radio ON again in the Router Settings of Belkin.
But I suggest to check all your system drivers if installed for it to be wireless capable again on the issue, Restoring Windows back to Default will not change anything in the Belkin Router. I believe this is a Driver issue on the Wireless card of your Computer.
You mentioned the system does work if plugged in Wired right, check your drivers install every driver that needs to be installed from the Manufacturer Website of your Computer for proper and compatible drivers.
Have a nice day.

Am trying to install a wireless router. When I use installation CD it asks me for broadband user name and password. Have tried a few guesses but no joy and cannot find anything written down. Can you help...

Have you tried to leave it blank; Belkin ships without password - you have to set it yourself once logged on?

If somebody else, like a previous owner, has set a password you have only two options, ask the guy or do a "hard reset" of the router:

Installation of belkin router failed

You need to configure your router.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.15.1
or
http://192.168.2.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on WAN settings and set those settings as your internet service provider settings.
Enable DHCP if you want to get ip from router.
Clickon wireless settings enable wireless then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
