the secret here is to buy a trailer harness for the vehicle ( available from most tow bar supply and fitting shops )
it is a set that just plugs into the existing harness at the rear light assembly ( piggy back arrangement)
from there you wire the male and female plugs as per the color code that is on the paper that comes with the units
saves cutting into the car harness and causing real electrical problems

How far will it transmit

good antenna, good radio, good match, barefoot, should transmit about 10 miles providing there isn't to much ground noise.

R/sig meter spikes on my uniden pro538w cb when keying mic

Does the radio put out and receive? And this could be as simple as your SWR switch isn't in the right position. But if your radio seems to work fine then I wouldn't worry to much about the meter it could be out of line I've seen that many times even on new radios.

Want more power.modulation

The only thing you can do is purchase a power mike for that radio. Just remember too much modulation will, really sound bad on the other side.

More power.modulation.

This radio will not do much above 8 watts and when you increase the watts the modulaion will decrease. It's a trade off. Personnally I would start looking at a conex or galaxy radio if you want more power and modulation.

My Uniden pro538w is very soft when transmitting, Is there a way to increase mic gain with this radio. I have tried three different mics. all sound like your whispering

Hello Drew
looks like you may have to take this radio in for an alignment. It is to new to to much info on the web yet but sounds like the limiter in it s set to tight and may not be giving you full legal audio.

I would like (need!!) to create an extention cord for a pool heater (UK) 3000w, 220/240v (13-14 amp). I want to plug it into the 220/240v, 30 amp dryer line. (My only 220/240 line and am unable install...

Use 12/3 gauge rubber or plastic insulation rated for 500 to 600 volts and extend the cable for entire length--don't make a short extension of the existing heater cable. If the total length is over about 4 meters then go with 10/3 cable for safety. The green wire is for the ground pin and the two slanted pins go to 220/240 voltage. Hook the heater end the same as the original cable. That should satisfy any local-disconnect regulations (at least in the states).

Hisses/squeals when transmitting

Check the input voltage into the radio while in transmit. The voltage maybe dropping as you go into transmit which causes it to drop into receive. That in turn allows the voltage to come back up. With your finger still on the PTT it tries to transmit again, etc. This could cause a feedback squeal and other symptoms.
