My Compaq SR1420NX desktop computer fan runs constantly. It begins within a minute or two following start-up. It is constant whirring loud noise. I believe it should not do so. I'm wondering if it could be due to something undesirable running in processor all the time. I once removed (long time ago) a previously used antivirus (AntiVir) program by deleting the program files instead of by using the proper Windows uninstaller. Now I use Norton, but I still occasionally see a right click menu item to check object with old AntiVir which cannot be started. It's only my guess that that may have something to do with the continuous loud fan noise which sometimes sounds like a low level vacuum cleaner noise. Otherwise my computer runs but slow at times. I'd like to stop that darn fan from running constantly! Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you.
Hi,
Desktop fans do run constantly, you cannot avoid this.
The reason they get loud is because there will be a build up of dust on the fan blades.
To rectify this problem turn off the computer and remove the power cord from the rear. Then you need to remove the side panel from the base unit to expose the motherboard.
You will see that inside the case it is full of dust. Look at the CPU fan (the fan on the motherboard) also take notice of any case fans too, they are at the back.
To clean the fans and the case you can use a clean dry paintbrush or compressed air.
Once the inside of the case is cleaned you will see a noticeable drop in noise.
Regards.
