Question about Pentax Optio E30 Digital Camera

2 Answers

My camera won't stay on. It turns on and lens goes out and adjusts and then retracts in and camera turns off. I am in the process of taking it apart to figure it out but unless it is a problem of the screws needing to be tightened I don't know what to do next. Can you help me or refer me. I bought this camera used and really like it and want to keep it if I can. I have had so much trouble keeping digital cameras working. Thanks

It is not the batteries I have checked that. Could it be due to full memory card? Or is there another solution?

The problem you are facing is most likely to be lens related. Perhaps it is not able to extend fully and hence retracing and turning off. The cause may be a mechanical obstruction. However before we try anything else, remove the battery hold for 1 min. Then put the battery back in, press and hold the powerbutton for 10 seconds. This should reset it and if its just some false alarm, it should be cleared. Otherwise have a look at the LCD when the cam is turning now and see if its showing some error message and let me know.

Well, the batteries may be not charged up enough. That happens to my Kodak camera.

No that's not it I tried several batteries and they do seem to be charged. Any other ideas. Could it be due to a full memory card?

Droppped it about one foot W/ lens out, now lens won't retract and camera turns off as soon as i turn it on. the lens sounds like it wants to retract but doesn't.

The gear is misaligned and will need to take apart to fix. Do not force since this will further produce more problems. Take it to a camera shop to fix. However, you might get charged alot of money, so I recommend getting a new camera -since they're now getting cheap to buy.

Coopix L10. Lens will not retract?

Due to the tight tolerances inside the lense mechanism - small bits of sand or lint may become trapped in the mechanics.

It is advised to take the camera to a camera repair shop and have it disassembled and cleaned.

There are many small parts and intricacies that will render it totally useless if not done properly.

Lens goes in and out, stays out when off and says

I'm sorry that the lens of the camera is not retracting. Please make sure that the battery is fully charged and there are no dust particles near the lens which stops retracting. Check if you are able to access the Menu. If yes, then, please Initialize the camera under Main settings 1 Menu. If you are not able to access the menu, you may have to power reset the camera by removing the battery and press n hold the power button for 1 minute continuously. After that leave the button and insert the battery and check if it helps. If the issue still persists, your camera will require service.

Camera lens wont close

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

System Error

I had the same problem. It was because the lens had just begun to retract and then jammed. I tried pushing back it in to no avail. I was considering it was time for a new camara anyway. Hoping to get a little more life out of it, with nothing to lose I was about to take it apart to see if I could clean out any obstruction as other posts had reccommended. Before I did that, I let my Mr. Goodwrench cousin take a look at it. Instead of trying to force the lens back in, he pulled it out. Apparently the slight play in the lens allowed him to do so and whatever was jamming the lens from retracting must have fallen out. Suddenly, the lens retracted and the camara is working fine. So before you throw the camara away or take it apart, try pulling out on the lens housing. You may also have to move it slightly back and forth while pulling out to get whatever is jamming the lens to move out and away releasing the lens to retract again.

Digimax 430 camera won't turn on

If your lens is open and the camera turns off after those dreaded beeps, I have a fix for your problem. Basically, for this model of camera, the lens first pushes out a bit and then it retracts into the camera. Well, my lens got stuck on the pushout and it prevented the camera from turning on. I used some finger pressure and wiggled the lens a bit. Then I turned it on and it retracted to where is was supposed to be to take pictures. Then I turned it off and it retracted into the camera. Problem solved!

Battery problem

It probably lacked the power to retract the lens. I'd start with recharging the battery and see if that corrects the problem.
