Question about ECHO, Inc. PB-251C Handheld Blower

1 Answer

My Echo pb251 is only 3 months old. After about a month of perfect running, one day it would not run above idle. You have to partially choke it to get any speed out of it. It's like the high speed jet is clogged? I took the carborator off and tried to remove the jets but they are not removable? Spayed carberator cleaner in just for the heck of it and put it back togeather, runs the same. Please advise as soon as possible. Thank you

Check your exhaust (muffler), it has 4 or 5 small exit holes, the new gasket between the exhaust port and "muffler" has been known to come apart and plug the exhaust holes which will keep your engine from running much above idle, it can't exit the air/fuel because of the blockage and that will let it run barely above idle, its probably hard to start too.

Failure to idle (or even start/ run) without the choke is indicative of dirty carb(s), partially clogged slow jet. Leaving a bike to sit with un-stabilized fuel is inviting problems, ethanol is the culprit.

Only runs with choke on

Sounds like some of the TINY passages [called "galleries"] inside the carburetor have become clogged or partially clogged with fuel residue called "gum" or "varnish."

Go to your local auto parts store and describe the problem to them, and ask for a solvent "kit" to unclog the carb.

There are a couple of brands, but generally they require that you empty the "old" stale fuel from the tank, add their solvent, crank the engine a few times to get the cleaner into the carb, allow to stand for a few days, add fresh gas and start.

Remove the in tank fuel filter and take it apart, the felt Echo uses on the filter clogs quickly. There is still a mesh screen filter in the assembly so make sure you put it all back together and reinstall the fuel filter into the tank.

what you need to do is remove the white plastic plug just above the diaphram gskt in the base of the carb use a pick or drill bit (but only turn it by hand) till you get it out then you will see a screw which will take a small flat blade screwdriver, start and warm up the blower then turn that screw counterclockwise till your Blower runs right on full throttle. the new equipment made now a days is set so lean for emissions that one change in the weather will affect how they run..... 2StrokeJim

unleaded fuel is notorious for going stale, and it can leave a resinous coating in the carb-try running the saw on half choke with new gas and less oil eg 50 to 1 for say ten minutes, this should clear the gunk out-if this does not work, you have two choices-strip and clean the carb,or adjust the H (high) scew on the carb anti-clockwise by a quarter turn a time till it revs out full bore-good idea to remove the chain and wear ear defenders when adjusting-and always use a chainsaw at its max rpm,or you run the risk of "kickback"

Starts and idles will not run above idle unless choked. Have cleaned carb multiple times new fuel filter new air cleaner and cleaned exhaust screen new plug. Maybe a collapsing fuel line?

Hi,
Have you tried adjusting the carb? There should be two screws on the carb (hi & Low) turn the hi screw completely until it stops and then start the unit. Let it warm up and then begin to back the screw out until it starts to run smoothly but strong. Once you have it running then put it in full run position (choke) and you should be good.
Good luck!

ECHO 2000 WEED EATER I changed the fuel line,

You may need the carburetor adjusted or rebuilt. The other possible item is "bad gas". If the gas has been sitting around longer than 30 days, it may be time to mix up some fresh fuel mixture.
