I have a 99 Rav 4. The radio/cd are the factory installed products. My problem is a week or so ago, the cd player started jumping tracks. I put a cd in and it starts playing track 16 then at the end of the track, it goes to track 4 and then to track 12, just all over the place. I tried a Memorex cd to clean the player but it made no difference.
Do I need a new cd player?
You may have it set to random. There should be a button on there that lets you choose what you want like menu and such things like that. If that is not one of the options then enless you want to not hear your songs in order then you need to get a new one. If you can't find any of those buttons on there and you need more assistance please send me a message and I will be glad to try and help you out! Thanks!

this happened to me in one of my cars, I bet that if you put the factory radio back in it will work just fine, most of the radios components, are part of systems wiring and used to send signals to ecm to let car start

you will have to remove radio get serial # and call the dealer they will be able to give you the code, sometimes they have you come in with id and car registration for proof of ownership but they will have the code i di it all the time for cust, good luck
First check the wiring to the radio. You may measure the power being ok but you also need to make sure the ground connection is ok.
If this is all ok it may be that you have dry solder joints on wiring socket inside the radio or a blown track or protection diode.
you will ned some accessories to put it in properly.
1. 99-3413 metra install braket. will ease the mounting.
2. 70-1761 metra wire kit will allow you to fly through the hookup.
you will be able to get these parts at your local stereo install shop.
when you purchase the mounting kit the instructions on how to remove and reinstall your cd player will be in the instructions. illistrations and all.
I am not sure about repairing the unit. Do you have a CD cleaner? You might check with a reputable auto electronics shop, one that specializes in car audio. They may have an adapter that will allow an aftermarket radio to be controlled from the steering wheel. Rosen makes a nice am/fm/cd/dvd navigation unit that also has XM and iPod inputs. The hard part will be to find supporting interfaces and wiring harnesses to fit a 99.
I have only seen this problem once and the only fix was to replace the cd player. I would suggest to get an aftermarket cd player from electronics store and have them install it. The factory option is over 700 installed. sorry
Just get an adapter harness. they are only about $10.00, and will plug into your factory wiring, just like the stock radio did, and then the other end plugs into your new radio. Skoche (sp!) is the major manufactuer fof these (WalMArt caries the in car audio), also ebay.
you should bypass the factory cd player. I installed a panasonic cd player in a 1994 gs 300 and it was hell. there are alot of wires that have nothing to do with the radio i believe one or some of those wires may be whats causing your problem try this solution if that doesnt work you may have a serious electrical problem
