Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I teach a children's gardening class. The children have a Coolpix camera for taking pictures of their gardens. Unfortunately a camera was dropped and will no longer work. It just says lens error when trying to turn on the camera and the lens will not retract. What do you advise?

It sounds like the fall knocked the gearing or track of the lens off. The unit will need to be taken to a repair center to be put back on track.

Dropped camera and now it won't turn on...

Unfortunately, digital cameras are sensitive, finicky little things. As with anything you drop, you run the risk of jarring something up inside that the camera needs to work. You might have cracked the screen or jammed the lens mechanism. It isn't good in any case, so I'd suggest taking your camera to a shop to have a professional look at it. Good luck!

Lens error occured after taking a few pictures. I

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Please wait for camera to finish recording - is the message that we get after we take a picture - the camera locks up at this point - it is in camera mode - need help(nikon coolpix 220)

Is the card cheap? Is the card a class 2 or lower? Is the card full of pictures that you should have downloaded a long time ago? Are your batteries almost depleted? These are things that will slow down a camera.

Lens erro, camerra wont turn on, completely dead

Casio will fix it but there would be a fee. A lens error means that there has been some kind of damage done to the lens gears. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done by the consumer, it is something that has to be sent in. Call repairs at 800-706-2534 option 2 and tell them you have a lens error and have talked to tech support already. Otherwise they will make you call tech support. :) They will tell you where to send it.

if the resulting images are the same, you have damaged the camera settings/controllers. see how they look on your computer.
if only the display on the camera is damaged, you should consider asking for a flat rate repair. most makers offer a price for major and minor repairs, and never charge beyond that.
good luck
