What you were told is usually true for desktop computers, but is _rarely_ true for laptop computers.

This is a feature to protect your files from being accessed _after_ your laptop computer has been stolen.

Find your original sales-receipt, to prove that you, not the thief, is in possession of the computer, and telephone Toshiba, to get "technical support" on your BIOS-password problem.

I forgot my wipro laptop administrarive password and i am unable to login. When i saw to expert, they told me to change the motherboard and it will cost some 12,000.So, is there any other way??Please help...

If it is the BIOS password you have forgotten, if you disconnect the small BIOS battery it will reset the password back to null. It may be difficult to access the battery, usually involves some dismantling of the case. A laptop repair shop should be able to do it for a small charge.

How can i reset my bios password

There's a few different options available,
For some bios makers, there's a backdoor password available, the complete list is located here,
Or, you can take out the bios battery.
It's a small, watch battery looking.. battery that will completely reset your bios settings and remove the password.

Hi, if you can break bios passwords, then you are destined to have a shrine built in your honor!! :) Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 After 3 incorrect attempts on hdd password, I see this: hdd...

I don't know how to break the password, but I think I know how to erase it. There is in many laptop computers a small coin cell battery that keeps settings information and the clock going when the main battery is removed. Removing this battery and waiting a minute or so will wipe out the BIOS settings and put them back to factory default condition. This may also take out the password.

The bad news is that on this model, you have to take the main board out to get at the backup battery. Instructions for doing this are found on the Dell website.

It's completely possible your CMOS (small BIOS battery) inside the laptop has died. If you are able to disassemble a laptop yourself, go here:

You'll need to remove the CMOS and reassemble.

If not, try to find a friend who can help you download "Hiren's Boot CD" which has tools for resetiing BIOS and other Passwords. Be careful what you do. Study blogs about whatever steps you intend to take and be patient.

Some BIOS manufacturers implement a backdoor password.
The backdoor password is a BIOS password that works,
no matter what the user sets the BIOS password to.
These passwords are typically used for testing and maintenance.
Manufacturers typically change the backdoor BIOS passwords from time to time.
