Question about Dell Inspiron 1100 Notebook
It could be a problem with the battery.. If it indicates orange it means the battery has some issues.. Try turning on the computer with the adaptor alone...
If you can get a similar battery from yur friends you can always try to flash the bios and check after that
The following dell link has the bios for your computer
Make sure that you have enough charge in the battery and the adaptor is plugged in while installing the bios...
If the issue is still not fixed please replace the battery

You have a ground fault issue in the DC JACK.
There are escentially 4 circuits in the jack and one is not making contact.
1: Negative Charge circuit (outter ring)
2: Negative Run circuit (outter ring)
3 Positive (Inner Ring)
4: Signal (center pin)
I believe the negative charge circuit (outter ring) is not making contact internally. Typically what happens on that model DC Jack is the tension contact metal becomes fatigued, and does not touch the outter ring.
This could come from Heat causing early fatigue of the metal.
Or normal wear, the metal has simply worn out from regular insert/removal.

That usually indicates battery is beginning to go bad. Eventually it will not hold a charge and will need to be replaced.

I had the same problem with a D620 at work. The laptop worked fine but the lights kept flashing on the front. I tried a few different things but it ended up being a bad battery. If the battery is less than a year old Dell will replace for free. Otherwise, you'll have to purchase a new battery.
