Question about Cameras
Although the camera works fine the flash unit does not.
1. When inserting the plug from USB into the flash unit completely, nothing happens. No lights, no screen, no nothing. If the plug is inserted only part way (1/4 inch less than fully in) green light and the screen lights up but this is very unstable condition and any movement opens the circuit. It is nearly impossible to find a position where it will remain connected.
2. I am not sure of this, but I believe that when I first connected the flash unit to the USB port the green light did light and I left it for several hours.
3. Perhaps the flash unit never correctly charged. But in any event, when connected to camera, nothing at all can be seen.
I read some reviews about this camera, and some people are having problems. In light of this, I would try to get it exchanged, or at least repaired under warranty, if possible. Chances are the usb port's conects are sprung, or misaligned, and while it's just a usb port, the labor will run you a good penny. There's always the possibility that the cord could have a problem, or a solder joint to the usb fingers could be cracked, causing havoc. I wonder why Minox cannot get it right. They have a long history in making small high quality cameras. Why do they bother to compete with cameraphones. They should make a proud successor to the 8x11 spy cameras. It was funny for me to read how Wilson got a refund for his DSC and then bought a M4. A few years back I decided to buy a new 35 Minox, expecting it to disappear from the market soon, but the camera I got was faulty and bad in so many ways that I returned it and got a new M6 instead from the same shop.
Your only avenue may be to have it serviced. You can look carefully at the usb contacts, and hopefully figure out something. Oh, make sure they're clean, also. You can clean them with a qtip and alcohol.
Good luck, hope this helps.
