Question about GE 24 in. Profile PDW7800 Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

My dishwasher makes a banging sound, I've checked the arm & even when the washers is empty it still makes that sound. NOW I've ALSO got a sound like a "clothes washer in spin cycle mode" also in the wash mode of my dishwasher. Do I need a service call or should I just replace it since it seems to be falling apart....it's only 2 yrs with min use

Hi,

This is quite a common problem. I would be able to help you, if you could provide few more details. When did you hear the banging noise i.e when filling, start of the cycle, mid cycle or it is always there?

Thanks!!

    Thanks for your response!!

There could be plenty of reasons for the same. I could tell you few of the solutions that is REALLY common on GE dishwashers.

    1. Check the stainless steel cover on the bottom of the lower rack sprayer.
If it has been bent downward on either end, it will hit the inside
panel of the door near the bottom. It may score the panel as it hits on
    each rotation of the sprayer.

Just bend it back in position, carefully, with a pair of pliers. The
technique required is similar to bending the pocket clip of a fountain
pen back into the proper position after it has been sprung out too far.
You might practice on a pen or mechanical pencil clip to see what I
    mean.

    2. Most likely the tube that feeds the top water assembly is not supported
well and is thumping around. Try pulling out the top tray and look
straight down at it (ie: take a birds-eye view). You should see a tube
leading from the middle of the top dish tray (where the spinning arm is)
back towards the rear of the dishwasher. Look for a little plastic clip
that attaches to the dish tray and which holds this tube in place.
Unclip this from it's current location and slide it backwards towards
the rear of the dishwasher. Re-clip it to the dish tray as far back as
you can (you should be able to move it backwards at least two or three
    spaces).

This will provide better support for the water tube closer to where it
connects to the rest of the dishwasher plumbing (at the back of the
dishwasher) and keep it from moving around. Start your dishwasher up
again and the grinding and thumping noise should be gone.

    3. I have the same sort of sound...moving the little plastic clip didn't
seem to affect it so i tried "tying it down' at several points on the
feed tube...no obvious effect on the sound ...it "thumps" starting with
the wash cycle and stops at the start of the rinse cycle..the "thump" is
every couple of seconds continuously during the wash.

Let me know, if that helps you :) unless i have many other solutions. I am sorry, but there is no specific solution as i could not see the machine :(. However, let me know the update, we would try to fix it.

Note - If the dishwasher is less than 4 years old and cost of repair is less than half the new one, it is worth repair.

    Let me know,once done.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I'll give this a try. If I need a service call, how do I find someone reputable (not rip me off ) in my area. Summerville SC. Sometimes the service call alone is $100.00

Defy dishwasher bottom arm was banging and seems really loose but now no longer turns even though clear and sprays water

Sounds like the bearings have crashed. Time to look underneath and repair it or call a white goods repair agent.

Not washing very well, on investigation the lower arm is not rotating freely (it does turn but not spin). Cannot figure out how to remove arm to investigate further

You can find a manual online. Get a copy & see if they tell you how to remove the arm.

Not sure of the distinction between turning & spinning you cite.

Check that some food item has not become lodged and is binding the arm. Empty the washer, remove the rack & invert on a counter to get optimum access to the arm. The problem may become obvious.

Good Luck

DD603 top draw cycle getting stuck on 73min??????

Normally if you started the rinse cycle with water already in the base of the dishwasher it will immediately go into circulating the water through the wash arms. Do you hear the wash arms running when the washer is stuck at 11mins? Also when the washer is stuck at 73 mins are the wash arms running all the time or do you hear the pump operate at some stage?
If you have the dishwasher manual available make sure the water pressure setting is at HI or LO depending on your rated mains water pressure.

Dishes are always dirty, maybe even dirtier after running dishwasher. has hot water, lower arm moves.

Check the outlet holes on both spray arms for clogs. If necessary, remove the spray arms, clean out the holes and empty out any debris inside the spray arms. Verify that the upper arm is turning also.

If the machine does not drain completely at the end of the cycle, the pump drain outlet is partially blocked and you are retaining dirty water for the next load.

You may have a chemistry problem - inferior soap, empty rinse agent dispenser, or extremely hard water.

Improper arrangement of the dishes can prevent some from being washed. Make sure no dish blocks the spray to another.

GE Dish Washer GSD 2800 DO3 runs a partial cycle...(even empty) and then beep and gives a message on control panel "washer arm blocked". Even ran without dish rack in washer still got the...

the rotating arm has a magnet in it to let the controls know if it is turning. Yours is not turning so
  • check the jets for blockages... you might have to remove the arm to clean them properly
  • make sure there in nothing stopping the arm from turning...spin the arm manually to see if it rotates freely.
  • knives etc sticking upward can stop the arms from rotating on the top rack
  • if you run without the rack the arm will obviously be not telling the electronic it is not blocked because it is not there. the rack must be in the machine with the magnet and the magnet passing correct messages.
  • If there is really no blockage then there is a elect fault that need to be sorted professionally.
  • PS have you taken the arm off anf squirted a hose up the inlet to see if water comes out all of the jets????

  • It sounds like you have an obstruction with upper or lower spray arm. check to see if the something is stuck in the path of the lower spray arm.
  • move the lower rack out
  • spin the spray arm by hand to see if it is hitting anything
  • if not .....spin the upper spray arm by hand under top shelf to see if it is hitting anything.
  • let me know how this works

Motor makes noise shortly after starting, makes normal sound level during main body of wash, then makes noise again during what I'm guessing is the rinse cycle. Not sure if it is a pump or motor problem....

Make sure the sprayer arm is turning freely, check for something stuck in the base of the sprayer arm (food or utinsel) preventing it from turning.

Dishwasher is filling up but not washing dishes.it will run the programme and also drain the water

Sounds like the washer arm is not rotating around during the wash cycle.. Can you reach in and manually rotate the arm to make sure it is free to spin? Also, it may be washing but the drain filter has so much sediment in it from previous cycles that it is just redistributing that stuff on you dishes.. check the drain filter too... lastly, is the detergent dispenser opening after a wash cycle? If it is empty ( meaning it has been used) the other things mentioned above are probably the issue.. Hope that helps...
