In ascii ñ code is 164 while @ code is 064. I'm not familiar with typewriters but if it allows characters to be imputed like on PC than press Alt and while holding it type 064. Perhaps codes are mixed for some reason so you can try same thing with 164.

a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You are most likely in KBII mode. There should be a slide switch or a top row key with KBII printed above it that requires the code key to turn it off.

Hp 2100 lazer jet printer will not print with new laptop vista

Many drivers that were supported by X are not supported by Vista. Suggestion to solve this and the numerous problems you will encounter is to revert to XP. Untill then, do the following.

Remove printer
1. Click the "Start" button, type PRINTER in the search box and press Enter.
2. Find the icons which are related to HP LaserJet 2100, and delete them.
3. Right-click on the blank part of the window, and choose "Run as administrator"->"Server Properties".
4. On the Drivers tab, select the listed printer and click the Remove button. Please then select Remove driver and driver package.
5. Open Start menu, input APPWIZ.CPL in the Search box and press ENTER to launch "Programs and Features".
6. Try to remove all related printer software.
Then, please download the latest drivers from the following website and install.

If the above steps do not work, please follow the steps below to clear Printing Subsystem and reinstall the driver again.
Click "Start", type "regedit" in Research Bare and press "Enter". Browse to the following registry key by clicking the PLUS (+) sign:

Click the PLUS (+) sign to expand Printers key. All current printers installed on your computer are listed there. Please right click each subkey in it on the left pane and click "Delete".

Step 2. Browse to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NTx86\Drivers\Version-3

Step 3:

Locate and then expand the following registry key

View the list of subkeys. There should only be the following subkeys for the default print monitors:
BJ Language Monitor

Local Port
PJL Language Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor

If there are any subkeys other than the subkeys that are listed above has to be deleted. To do this, right-click each subkey that is not on the list, and then click Delete. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the deletion.

Step 4:

Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard.

Go to safe mode.

Open "My Computer" and browse to the folder:

Go to the Following folder

Faint type on metallic refills

Faded print is nearly always the 1st sign the batteries are nearly worn out - try new batteries. (it could be that metalic tape requires more power to print than the paper tape)

@ sign

Could you be using an inappropriate keyboard layout?

Most common issue is US vs UK keyboards, which have the " and the @ sign transposed.

Try typing " and see what you get.

If your @ is above the 2 then you need a US keyboard layout.

If your @ is above the ' then you need UK layout.

If this is the issue, you should be able to change the setting in the "keyboard" part of the control panel.

Does it always print the same thing in place of the @ sign? If so you probably have a non standard printwheel.
