Have had many time problems with the router:

Do the following: If you have a router and a linksys modem do it to both.
Disconnect the power source from the router and disconnect the ethernet cable wait about 30 seconds .. plug back in the power sources (do not just pull the plug that goes into the wall...... remove the black little cord that plugs into the router)
In some cases (if the above doesn't work the first time..) you may also want to completely unscrew the coaxial cable from your broadband provider ) and wait 30 seconds or a minute and follow through with the unplug resetting..
Note: there are also reset features on the back of your modem and router.. it never hurts to use those once in awhile

on router.. there little button that pops out in the back .. just hold it in for 2 0r 3 seconds and release..
on modem... SEE that tiny little hole between the power supply and the ethernet plug.. carefully insert a paper clip into the hole..no you won't get electrocuted.. and GENTLY push the reset ...
Hope this helps.

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Need to set up a wireless connection

Do you have the CDs that came with the router and the adapter?  If you do, you can run the Router CD on your PC upstairs to configure the Router, and Run the adapter CD on the a610 to configure the adapter.If you don't have the CDs, I need the brand and model number of the wireless router, and the model number of the linksys adapter.  If you need help physically installing the card, let me know.

I lost the instructions on how to install a Linksys wireless router. I would like to down load these instructions.

cable setup

This guide is recommended for Cable Internet Service in the USA like Charter, Cox, Comcast, Cable Vision, etc.
  1. First you need to connect the device together. You need to connect your cable modem to the internet port on the back of the router, and the computer should go to one of the 4-port on the router labeled Ethernet (1, 2, 3, 4).
  2. Then turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize before powering on the Linksys router. Lights that you should have on the router are Power (solid green), Wireless/WLAN (Green sometimes flashing), One of the no. lights where the computer is plugged in (flashing), And the internet light (flashing).
After doing this step there are times that this will already get you online. If the internet will not work, you continue following the steps 3.

3. If the internet is still not working; we will need to adjust a setting on the router setup page. To access the setup page of the router you need to open your internet explorer or Firefox on the computer that is hardwired directly to the router. In the address bar of your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) type http://192.168.1.1/ and hit enter or click Go. It will ask you for a username and password. Just type "admin" for the password field and there is no username. If you have ran the setup CD prior to this, then use the password that you have set when were running the setup CD.
4. Once you are in the setup page of your router make sure that the Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration DHCP, then click the save the settings button at the bottom of the page. After saving the settings, click the sub tab at the very top of the page that says MAC Address Clone. Set it to enable and click the button that will say Clone or Clone your PC's MAC and save the settings again.

5. After doing step 4, do a power cycle. Power cycle is done by turning of the router, modem and computer. Leave them off for a minute, tuned them back on in this order. Modem first wait for the lights to stabilize, then the router wait until the power light become solid. Then turn on the computer. This will get you online through the router.

- Connecting
- Connected
6. If the status is "Connected" you should be able to browse the web, if not reboot your computer
7. If you get an error message please repeat the "Configuring the router" and "Power Cycling" steps with a different username.
- If all four connections fail then please see our knowledge base articles on the error you're getting.

I have a Mac. Just bout a linksys router. Cannot play set up cd. What should I do?

Don't use the setup CD. It can cause a mess anyways if your computer could read it. Just plug the router into your mode using the correct jack. If you need to any admin work on the modem, the default IP address is:

http://192.168.0.1

user id is admin
password is linksys

The instructions on the router are explained on the right side of the screen.

If you want a manual you can go to linksys.com and call up your model number on your router and download the user manual that way.

I cannot set up my Linksys wireless router model number:WRT54GS to work properly. I have a desktop computer with Windows XP operating sysyem. I have three other laptop computers with wireless components

Hi,

The easiest would be to connect your desktop straight to your modem and verify that you can connect to the Internet. Do not use the LinkSys WRT54GS yet. Pop in the CD that came with the WiFi Router and run the setup wizard. Follow exactly on screen instructions. Verify that your desktop's networking is set to auto obtain IP address.

Alternately, you can try:
1. connect your desktop with a straight through LAN cable to Ethernet Port #1 of the WRT54GS;
2. set your desktop to use IP-192.168.1.10, Subnet Mask-255.255.255.0, Default Gateway-192.168.1.1;
3. open a browser and goto 192.168.1.1. use the LinkSys supplied username and password;
4. verify/configure/set the LinkSys to your preference;
5. for the time being do not use any security keyphrase, WEP WPA or MAC filter;
6. verify that your laptops could see the router's SSID;
7. verify that all laptops are set to auto obtain IP addresses;

If for some reason neither method will not work, pls post back with your modem's make & model.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

What are the step for setting up you computers to a network using a Linksys router. I have a 2 PC's and a laptop that I would linke to net work together. My first computer is connect to the Wireless-B...

Hi Ed, if your using windows you can open network connections & run network setup wizard. Follow the instruction for a home network for the wireless PC's & notebooks. Once the network is setup for all PC's than you can install the printer cd software in the PC's that you want to access the printer. Each PC & notebook will have access to the printer through the network.
The PC that that is connected to the printer needs to be shared.
Open printers and Faxes. Right click once on the printer & left click sharing. Agai follow the instructions.
Lastly,I strongly suggest you setup security for your wireless. If you do not anyone close can tap into your network connection. Follow linksys instruction to setup security. If you run into a problem you can call linksys for free advise from a pro. Their number is listed in the manual.
