Question about RCA Scenium HDLP61W151 61 in. HD-Ready Television

1 Answer

Picture problems I have a RCA Scenium HDLP61w151, and the other day the picture started to get chopy? basically there is a lot of white flash where colors would normally be. I would turn the television off and after about 30 seconds turn it back on and the problem would stop. This morning, i could not get it to stop and after about 30 seconds of being on, the lamp and fan would turn off, and about 1 min later turn back on, show a messed up picture again, and then turn off. I have no problems changing the bulb if this is the problem, but since the fan turns off along with the lamp i think it is something else, can anyone assist, Thanks

In the DLP sets there is a lower reliability than with the conventional LCD and Plasma screens.

I will make a best guess because I don't have the set opened in front of me to troubleshoot it.

The fault you have can be with the main video processor board, or with the DLP display chip itself, or possibly something with the colour wheel system.

By the nature of the fault you are describing, it sounds to be thermo sensitive.

You should take the set in for an estimate to have it serviced. I can tell you in advance, if the fault is anything like I am speculating the repair will be on the expensive side.

I would be seriously considering a Plasma or LCD set. Stay with main brand names that have local service. From all that I have seen, I was never crazy about DLP type TV sets.

Unplug the TV for a minimum of 2 minutes to reset it then try again. If you get no picture there is a possibility the lamp is no good.

Dark picture on RCA Scenium 61 in DLP

Yes, the lamp will gradually get darker as it nears it's end. The rolling lines sounds more like the set is on a local channel for the cable hook up. If your local area has a channel 3 or 4 live terestrial broadcast simply tune the cable box output to the other one, the same for the tv.
If this is cable/local broadcast issue it will go away in Febuary when the NTSC broadcast ends.

RCA SCENIUM trys to start up but wont start

I kind of had the same problem..I had audio..no picture..and the display would flash 5 times. Per the manual it said the lamp needed replaced. After reading a post by someone that had the same problem and replaced the lamp, it still didnt fix the problem..I took my set in to the repair shop. Turned out to be the light engine..$1000.00 for the part...$250.00 for labor! The tv was only 15 months old..and not even used on a regualr basis..I maybe had 300 hrs on it. I did not buy the extended warranty (will for my next tv!!!) but after many heated conversations with RCA..they agreed to pay for the part..I got stuck with the labor, atleast that was better than the whole bill. Anyway..starting to act up again..after only 5 months..bottom line..I'll never buy an RCA again!!
