Garmin GPS I don't have my serial number and I am locked out my GPS

Create an account on Garmin's website and register the GPS using the serial number or plugging the GPS into the computer after downloading the Garmin communicator plugin.
The Garmin communicator plugin is an application that allows the GPS to communicate with the Garmin website.

After the GPS is registered, there will be a tab for the "Dashboard" and with the GPS connected to the computer, the dashboard will detect the serial number of the GPS and let you know if there are any software or map updates available for it.
The Garmin WebUpdater program can also be used for updating just the software (firmware) of the GPS and is a free download.

If you contact Garmin support and give your name and serial number off the unit they will be able to help you. I have attached the link below to the Garmin support.

Do you still have the original box it came in? If so Garmin places a sticker on box with serial number see if its the same

The serial number is on the bottom of the unit where the decal is....

serial number is on the bottom of the unit above the gold connection plug unit. Its VERY small.....

Those are the only two ways to unlock the GPS without contacting Garmin. If you call them and provide the serial number they may be able to unlock it.

Pull off the battery panel. In-between the 4 pin connector and the battery compartment you will find an 8 digit number.

Note the serial number is different from the unit ID which can be found by using the Garmin Mapsource software tools, or by going to:
Menu >> Setup >> System >> Menu >> Software Version

Each map is locked to the unit serial number. The only way to get the map to work on another unit is to buy the maps and register the map serial number and you will receive a unlock code from garmin.

Did you buy the unlock key from garmin? You need this key to be able to use the maps on a specific gps (serial number) so when you update maps, you type in this unlock key and the maps are unlocked on the gps. There is a page about this on the garmin website
