Faulty power supply unit?

My Vizio GV46L after one year stopped working and it's not under warranty now. It seems like it doesn't get power. I already tried switching different outlets and power cords. Could it be a faulty internal power supply unit? Does anyone know when I can purchase one? Does anyone perhaps know how to fix it? Thanks.

This unit uses one of 2 power supplys the parts list is here
you can purchase the parts at but before you order the power supply check the voltages on the power supply you should have 24v, 12v, 3.3v, and 5v if you have all of these voltages then you may have a main board or panel problem.

You can contact the manufacture to purchase the power supply module.

However, there are other boards in the set that can easily cause the power supply failure because something went defective. It is also possible that the power supply is not defective, but it is in protect mode because of a failure on another board, or in some other device in the set.

The tech would follow procedure from the service manual using the proper instrumentation and diagnostics to determine the defective board(s). Then he would replace the necessary modules and or parts to get the set working again.

In the end if you try fixing this yourself, you can end up spending a few hundred dollars on a power supply and only find that it blows again or goes in to protect mode because the original fault was not determined and corrected.

The DTV input in my GV46L stays black. Why?

You don't say what you are trying to input but take note that your model does not have a digital tuner on the DTV input. If you use a digital OTA antenna, the signal must first go through a digital converter or tuner before it goes into the DTV input. The DTV/ANT input is only cable ready. There is no digital tuner in the TV to activate the DTV menu.

I have a vizio flat sceen lcd 46" and it will not power on can I replace the power supply

It is my pleasure to guide you.

Before trying to replace the power supply some questions.

1. Is the TV under warranty? Usually one to three years. If it is still under warranty, grab your receipt and go back to the store and have them fix it.

2. Before replacing the power supply you need to do alot of reading if you are not familar with electronics. You need to understand what type of power supply to purchased. You should understand what wiring is needed and how to hook it up. If a mistake is made in the wiring or the correct power supply it could damage or burn out the TV.

Good luck and please post back that you are successful or that I can be more helpful.

All 3 hdmi inputs dont receive signal from my blu ray and hd receiver

If you are absolutely sure that everything is hooked up correctly and the tv is on the correct input, then you will need to replace the main board. You can find them new or used on ebay here...

You may want to try a different hdmi cable first to make sure, but it sounds like the board may be bad. Good luck!

My vizio 32" tv won't turn on, only the red led light does. My warranty expired one week before the tv stopped working. can you please help me

I would try real hard to get it repair under warranty, they may bend the rule sinc it is only one week over warranty. Right now the 5vdc standby power supply is working. Typical repair for LCD TV is $200 and up plus parts. If they refuse, I would not buy another VIZIO.

The reason the tv is turning itself off, because most TVs have a "Protection Mode" that turns the unit off when it detects a failed part inside the tv.
The most likely the tv has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
Being that the TV is under a year old, it should be still under manufacture warranty. Last thing you want do is void the warranty by opening up the TV. Here's some info to get you started on the warranty:

If it not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

Vizio 42" lcd powers up with sound only - no picture

It sounds to me that the unit has a faulty inverter board which could be due to an overheated/bulged capacitor. I would send in a claim on it to the factory if it is still under warranty.
