Question about Sharp Televison & Video

2 Answers

I need to find 2 capacitors for a sharp lc-26ad22u power board.. My tv did not survive a power surge and two -what I think are capacitors where blown/blackened. They are grey and circular. The numbers they read are 10e271 and 74P below on one capacitor and 10e241 and 76Pbelow on the other. I would like to know where I can find these individual pieces of the power board for my sharp lc-26ad22u?

I have contacted the manufacturer and a certified repair store.. neither seemed interested in helping me determine the part number I needed to find the 2 burnt out pieces.. Do you have any suggestions for where to find a whole power board to this model of TV or a board diagram that might help me determine the part #?

    I appreciate any feedback.

Those numbers are not the right ones to find on capacitors.
If they are capacitors, they must have markings such as (for example) '47uFd' (value of capacitance) and '63VDC' with polarity signs of + or - near the two leads. Additionally, there will be reference numbers close to the parts such as; 'C134'
Those devices which are heat-damaged could be chokes. They are inductors and will show copper windings if the insulation is removed. If they are, look for their reference designators starting with 'L'. If they are chokes, they may be of an odd value since these are not nearly as standardized in value as capacitors are. The likelihood of scoring a schematic for your set isn't good; the mfrs. really aren't interested in making your TV whole again, they want you to buy a new.
If you can determine exactly what it is that has failed (I don't think those two parts are all that has died), check Mouser Electronics which appeals to small orders (they like big ones too); they have no minimums and charge actual shipping cost.

Replacing the power board may even be necessary since line surges normally don't damage only a few parts and semiconductors may be dead and not show any outward signs.

The only source I know of that might have the board is Jimmy's parts; they UN-manufacture a variety of sets:

    Jimmy's parts

I got a few hits on the model number offering 'pulls' too:

    Google hits

After being 45 years in all phases and segments of electronics, I caution you on pursuing this (although I probably would) since you have to expect that the power supply may have passed through damaging spikes to low-level circuits and there may be much more damage you simply can't know of without some troubleshooting skills.

Good luck and post back to this thread if I can be of further help.

That is a metal oxide varistor (mov) I found that a (NTE2V130) worked fine for me.

  • pbosche Jun 16, 2011

Pulling the fried MOV solved my power supply problem. Since I can't put my hands on an NTE2V130, any thoughts on leaving it out, throwing the dice, and hoping the next surge won't kill the entire set?

Orvac Electronics in Fullerton, Califronia sells these NTE 2V130 for about $3.49/ea. and we find that MOV(Metal Oxide Varistor) often blow on TV pc boards. Address is 1645 E Orangethorpe Ave Fulleton, CA 92831, 714-871-1020. If your out of state or just plain ol' far away we can ship it out to your location for a nominal shipping fee. In addition, you can visit our website www.orvac.com for other information. Thanks. Fabian Yslas.

You cannot tell if capacitors are bad just by looking at them. they need to have a meter called an ESR meter to test them, I can tell you with almost certainty that it is a capacitor in the power supply that has failed. Sharp aquos lc-37gv5u sound shuts off after ten min. of starting

Good day!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

TV Sharp Aquos LC-32D44E/S doesn't come on Status light turns green for 10 seconds then turns red but no picture or sound.

Good day to you and welcome to fixya..

That problem is usually have 2 causes..Its either power supply board or main board..

Please take this steps on how to determine the problem:
1. Open the back cover.
2. Check the power supply output...It should have 5vdc for the main board..12vdc or 16vdc for the audio and 24vdc for the back-light inverter..
3. If those 3 voltage supplies have encountered voltage drop...The problem could be on power supply board..
4. If the power supply output is normal..The problem could be on the main board...
5. If the problem is power supply you should check if the capacitors are bulged on the top and try to replaced it..If you can't do that you can purchased new power supply board..
6. If the problem is on main board there is no D.I.Y repair on that so you need to buy a new main board that fits to your TV..

You have a better chances if you have failing capacitors on the power supply board..

Please watch this videos about capacitors..

Hope this solution will be helpful..

Thanks for using fixya...

Sharp lc 32x20e red flashin light and cant turn on the tv

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps

Good luck.

My Sharp Aquos LCD TV LC-40C37U will not power up. The green power lamp at the bottom right is blinking. We had a power surge last night, I even measured 180V on the power outlet. Is my TV now damaged?

Good day sir/maam, chances are, yes or no, yes, the surge do has the ability to damage your TV, but no, modern TVs are autovolt (it can work from 90v-240v) so check the manual or back panel to confirm. The most deadly part of the surge is it can hit more than 500v at a split of a second, damaging your TV's switching power supply. The TV's power supply is bad. it cannot produce the proper voltage to power your TV. thats why its on standby. Bring it to your dealer for proper advice on the status of your TV.
