Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

I cannot disengage the cutting attachment so that the mower will start; it seems like it is stuck, because when I attempt to disengage the blades the lever will not move into the disengaged position. How can I solve this problem and keep it from happening? I was mowing and turned off mower while blades were engaged. Went to disengage blades and lever would not lower so now mower will not start. You haven't specified the model number, but pretty much all riding mowers use a plunger-type electrical switch to engage the mower. If it's stuck in the 'lifted' position (mower engaged) then it has broken internally. You must replace it. In doing that, the wires need to be placed back on the correct terminals, so take a picture of the wires (showing their colors) before you disconnect them from the switch. Take the broken switch to a lawnmower shop to find a replacement. Shouldn't be more than $10 - $20. Good luck! Please rate my solution if you found it helpful.

I have a 42 inch troy-bilt riding mower the blades won't disengage.

Sounds like either the switch for the blades is not shutting off the power to the electric clutch or the clutch itself is not disengaging. I would shut the mower off and unplug the wire to the electric clutch and then start the mower and make sure the blades do not turn you may have the belt for the blades on the wrong pulley and it might be causing the blades to turn. Hope this helps.

Bracket clutch anti-rotation

Without the anti-rotation arm installed when you engaged the PTO the clutch spun and probably ripped out the wires connecting it to the harness. This can be repaired but is tricky. If you have a Husqvarna dealer close by, it will save you several hours of labor to have them correct the problem.

Swisher 44" mower starts and runs but engine bogs

The engine in this machine seems to be powerful. If you can remove the belt from the pulley that drives the blade. Try turning the pulley buy hand. If it turns tight or not at all this is your problem. The unit that is the pulley to blade assembly is seized or ready to seize. Sometimes they are designed to be taken apart and repaired, and sometimes they are not. Did you check for a grease fitting within the pulley to blade unit?
I would like to hear how this works out for you. Best of luck.

Belt comes off my John Deere L A 110 42 inch cut when blades are disengaged!

3 things:
1. disengage the blades and allow them to come to a complete stop before reducing the engine RPM
OR
2. adjust the belt tension by loosening the bolt where the cable to engage the blades is attached to the maximum.
OR
3. replace the belt.

I have a Kraftsman 91.5 42 inch cut model #

Safety switch at seat or reverse. Mower will cut of when blades are engaged if you get off the seat or put into reverse. Check these switches for stuck on, damaged, disconnected, or just plain broke. Good luck.

Craftsman riding mower blades won't disengage

This is too late, but for the next person: There is an extension spring around the cable attached to the blade engage/disengage lever.

On my tractor one end of the spring had the hook broken off or it. Because it is around the cable it is still in place but doesn't stretch when you engage the blade (so can't pull the pulley out and slacken the belt when you disengage).

The replacement is a few dollars and can be bought on ebay or Amazon.
