Question about General Electric WJRR4170GWW Top Load Washer
When the lid is open the front corner, by the bleach add in spout, of the tub is rubbing when in operation. The wash will make a very loud hitting noise and begins to shake very hard. I noticed connecting cables in all four corners and they all appear to be connected. The washer is 5 years old. How do I check the balanceing mechanisim or what else could it be. Is there anything I can do to fix this myself?
Check the rubber damper straps ('cables") by hand to make sure they aren't cracked or broken (a light tug on each should suffice). Sometimes it isn't obvious visually, especially if you don't have good lighting. If one strap is bad, replace the entire set. Also inspect the attachment points for the straps to make sure they aren't loose or bent.
If you are sure the damper straps are good, then check the suspension under the tub for excess wear or breakage.

Check your belt. It may have become loose.
On the top right and left of the front panel insert a putty knife about 3 inches in where the top meets the front panel.
This will release the front panel so that you can see the motor and belt operation.
Better still, a 5 month old machine call for factory authorized service.

You may need to put a level on top of the washer and then there are little feet like under the washer you will need to turn those either way untill all 4 are right, meaning once the level says it is level then you are ok and avoid overloading.

The best option is to look at the source of noise than to specilate on a whole list of possibilities.
Please use a good lighting to look from the underside of the washer . Now rotate the main shaft, rotate the drum and check.
The fault can be poor spindle assembly, check bearings, belts.
Also it can be that some foregn objects have lodged into the tub from any clothes during the wash. so check this out, if so remove after dismandling.
Please proceed to check and respond.
