Nothing in audio except (modem). Everything is greyed out. I have already been to the dell site and installed the correct drivers and reinstalled drivers to no avail. Also of course the sound is not muted as there is nothing to check or uncheck when it is greyed.Even tried uninstalling the modem as that is the only thing listed in audio. Nothing.

Hi,

You probably just need the correct audio drivers for the desktop.

Click on the link below and download & install the Audio drivers >>>

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4700&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Make sure you have not muted the audio if you have the drivers installed.

Regards.

    Hi,

You are saying everything is greyed out?

Have got full administrator rights on the computer? What operating system is currently installed on the desktop?

Also go into the bios and make sure the on-board audio is not disabled in there.

Usually to get into the bios on a Dell desktop its either F1 or F2 as the computer is just starting up.

Have you actually gone into your sound and audio devices in the control panel and made sure that all the sound devices are correct and the volumes are up.

Also, back in the devices menu, you could try the option "Roll Back Driver"

I have got 965 chipset mother board after reinstallation of OS audio not there in my spekers

You will need the laptops setup disc to load the drivers for the audio. They don't always get recognized by the OS when reinstalled. If you can get on the Internet and I'm assuming you can because you asked a question here, you can download the audio driver.

I get this message AC-97 audio device cannot start. (Code 10)

Try to reinstall the Drivers through the windows auto.
Make sure the audio service is enabled in BIOS.
Upgrade the drivers for the chipset on the intergrated Motherboard. Either look on the motherboard or run a program like ASTRA 32 to determine the chipset and download and install the driver accordingly.

For about one week, when I try to listen to audio, no sound comes out of the laptop speakers so I tried external speakers but that did not work. I restored my system to a point well before the sound quit...

The sound driver is a very delicat thing. Go to Device Manager and see if the sound card is installed.
But right click on My computer- Manage- Services and Applications- Services and look for the Windows Audio service. Check how it is and set the startup type as automatic.
If this doesn't help try to uninstall the drivers, restart your computer and reinstall them.
Go to Acer website ( http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=17&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&ctx1g.c2att92=122&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=2980211862 ) and download the driver.
If this doesn't fix your problem try reinstalling the operating system and install the drivers in the appropriate order: first the chipset, etc.
It is the safest way to resolve the problem if you reinstall your operating system.

Laptop dell inspiron 1525 sound only when headphones connected

If you can here sound in headphones, but not through the speakers, most likely the phone jack switch is bad. The whole jack needs replacement.
Also, in some cases, it could be more then that, like Audio CODEC chip on motherboard is bad, but lets assume the best.

Blue screen stop error message 0*000000d1

This is caused by a bad driver installed on the computer. Try booting into safe mode and disabling any drivers that are not needed. You can also attempt to reinstall the drivers under safe mode.

No sound device

? mark means no sound driver install or errors in Device Manager. u can check ur mother board cd room or can search ur audio driver in web or below may be ur answer

Question: Where do I locate motherboard sound drivers?
Answer: Users who have motherboards with on-board audio (often with VIA, Realtek, or C-Media chipsets) may have issues with their audio or AC'97 errors in Device Manager. Often this is caused because the operating system has been reinstalled and the motherboard chipset drivers are not installed. To resolve this issue try following the below steps.
Let Windows redetect drivers
If you have not recently reinstalled Microsoft Windows it's possible that your audio drivers are simply corrupt. Open Device Manager and remove all devices under "Sound, video and game controllers" and any "Other devices". Once removed reboot the computer and let Microsoft Windows re-detect the audio drivers.
Motherboard chipset drivers
Reinstalling the motherboard chipset drivers will usually resolve this issue. If your computer came with a Motherboard CD, install the chipset drivers from the CD and the sound drivers if also available on the CD.
If you do not have a motherboard CD, obtain the motherboard chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.
Sound card drivers
If after installing the motherboard chipset drivers you continue to have issues install the sound drivers. We suggest you download the sound drivers from the computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer.
A listing of motherboard manufacturers and their drivers can be found on our motherboard chipset drivers page.
