Question about Bissell 7920 ProHeat Pro-Tech Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum

1 Answer

I took off the brush roller to clean it and now I can't get the roller to work unless the machine is standing upright. The side that's not connected to the belt keeps falling out.

Similar problem I think. My cleaner wouln't pick up water and when I lift it from the ground the side of the roller (not belt side) hangs down and seems unconnected to anything - took it in for service and the guy put a new brush on it - still hangs down! He said it should but I cannot remember it being like this when new. Not tried it yet but shouldn't the roller be fixed in both sides?

The solution for your situation is as follows: You need to put the retraining clips on over the arms to properly put them in place You most likely put the retaining clips on too early.

If you are able to remove one end cap, the brush roller shaft can be removed and the other bearing is exposed for examination and removal of the hair that probably is clogging it. After cleaning and reassembly the brush roller should rotate freely. Clean any burned belt residue from the motor shaft and install a new Eureka belt.

Upright dirtdevil roller jammed - how to remove square endcaps for cleaning

The brush roller is secured with elastic stop nuts. Clamp the nut at one end with a wrench or pliers and remove the nut from the opposite end. This will allow the shaft to be removed completely for cleaning

Brush does not rotate when switch is on

Hi, mine did the same thing last week. I took off the end cap that holds the brush in place, and noticed inside the cap a piece was broken. Got a new end cap from Dyson, and it works fine now. Also, roller will not work in the upright position. You should recline the handle, then turn the vacuum on and make sure the brush switch is on. Hope that helps.

I took the cover off the brush so I could cut off all the hair that was wrapped around it (vacuum was working fine, I just noticed the hair). I pulled the brush/spinner thing off one side, cleaned...

the ends of the brush roller have to go in in a certain position.each end has a different look.make sure the match up to the seats on the roller guides and make sure the belt is centered.the belt will center itself by turning the roller by hand in one direction then the other.the ends of the brush roller ust set in their seats correctly

Putting on a belt on a vacuum

Greetings from GoVacuum.com,

Replacing a Belt on an Upright vacuum can vary from model to model, but it is basically going to be the same for most upright models.

First you will need to access the belt. Most upright vacuums this is done by turning the machine upside down, and most you'll need to remove the bottom plate by unscrewing (usually 4) screws that hold the plate on. You should see screws that are closest to the actual roller brush, simply remove these screws, and take the bottom plate off. If the machine is a Eureka, or Kenmore, the top agitator housing will be removed from the top of the vacuum, not the bottom.

Once you have removed the bottom plate, or top agitator housing, you should be able to see the belt (or broken belt) along with the roller brush. Remove the broken belt. Make sure that you purchase the correct belt by taking the make, and the model number (located on the back or bottom of the machine). Please note that a broken belt may be 4-5 inches longer then a new belt, as they stretch a lot before they finally break.

Once you have the new belt, you will need to remove the roller brush. Pay attention to how the roller brush fits into the agitator housing, usually there will be fittings on the end of the roller that have to be put in a specific place, or in a certain way to work right. After the roller brush is taken out of the machine, you will need to wrap one end of the belt around a metal pulley on the opposite side of the roller brush. Most pulleys are located where the main housing (handle part) of the vacuum meet the the agitator (floor part) part of the machine. Anyways, wrap one end of the belt around the pulley, and then put the roller brush through the other end of the belt. This is where you'll need to put some elbow grease into it. You'll need to stretch the roller brush and belt so that the brush and belt are stretched back to the place where you took the roller brush out of the vacuum.

Once you have replaced the roller brush with a new belt around it, pull the belt a few times to make sure that the brush spins while you are pulling it, to ensure that the belt is not pinched, and is spinning freely.

I hope this helps. Here's a video showing how to replace the belt on a Hoover Windtunnel Self Propelled model; Feel free to email me if you'd like to send me the model number of your vacuum, this way I can be a little more specific, and give you part numbers. I have all belts for all vacuums in stock. Email; chris.jones@govacuum.com. 1-866-468-2288. No suction

Ok first thing to do is remove & clean the 2 piece premotor filter or purchase new.

Now remove soleplate from bottom of machine to do this rotate the 3 plastic screws to unlock position. Lift sole plate off now remove any blockagers or fluff that may be built up over the brush roller.
Remove hair from brush roll using scissors.

Check short clear hose for blockages & any damage rips or tares if it is damaged purchase new hose.

Now look at belts & rotate brush roller it should turn relatively easy if it is difficult to turn by hand remove the brush roller & pull off the end caps the axle will come out with one of the caps.
Check the roller bearings clean away dust build up replace end caps & axle spin roller holding on to end cap if freely to spin refit back on to machine.

If its stiff to rotate you will need new roller.

Now pull off the 2 inspection ports check them for bits of paper etc especialy the (U) shaped port at bottom rear of machine this can contain pens pencills stones all sorts of items that hinder the suction.

Now check the long flexi hose & metal wand for any obstructions.

If after all this machine is still not working correctly go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

On this site you will find Dyson service manuals covering poor suction, clutch, motor, etc.
