How many lights should be on my westell model327w?

b2f0922.jpg
The Westell has several lights on the front that have various meanings

Power = When lit, this light indicates there's power to the router. It should be solid green.

Ethernet = When lit, this light indicates that the modem is communicating with your computer. This will be on only if you're using the Ethernet cable to connect the modem to your computer

Wireless = When lit, this light indicates that the wireless function of the Actiontec is working. This will only be lit if you're using the wireless function.

DSL = When lit, this light indicates the modem is speaking to the central office (phone company). When working, the light should be solid green.

Internet = When blinking, this light indicates that you're receiving information i.e., you're able to browse from site to site. This light will be blinking as you're receiving information.

My dsl light keeps blinking and I can't get on the internet because it won't stop blinking

  1. Step 1 Ensure that your AT&Tmag-glass_10x10.gifDSL self-installation kit is complete. At minimum, it should contain aDSL modem, an AC adapter, an Ethernet cable, a telephone cable, severaltelephone filters and an installation CD.
  2. Step 2 Installthe telephone filters on each telephone jack that you have a phoneplugged into. Install a dual phone adapter on the jack closest to yourcomputer if you have an answering or fax machine, telephone or analogmodem in the same room. Then plug your telephone equipment into thefilters. Connect the telephone cable that was provided with yourinstallation kit into an unfiltered telephone jack.
  3. Step 3 Insertthe installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the installation programdoes not start automatically, click Start > Run > and browse tothe CD-ROM drive directory to find the installation file.
  4. Step 4 Connectthe telephone cable that is attached to the unfiltered wall jack to theback of the DSL modem. Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of themodem and to the Ethernet network interface card port on the back ofyour computer. Connect the AC adapter to the back of the modem and plugit into an electrical outlet. Power the modem on.
  5. Step 5 Checkthe modem lights. There should be at least two lights lit. These willhave labels such as "Power" and "Ethernet." However, these labels maydiffer depending on the model of modem you received in yourinstallation kit.
  6. Step 6 Completethe software installation. Enter your chosen username and password whenprompted. Check your modem to see if the light labeled "DSL" or"Internet" is lit. Open a web browser window to see if your DSL servicehas been successfully installed.

Modem light keeps blinking Have tried resetting. Restoring to default settings. If I hook the computer directly to the time warner modem I can acces the internet fine. Thanks

If the modem light keeps blinking, it means that the router hasn't been configured yet. Also, rarely, it can be an issue with WAN port/modem port on the router or the ethernet cable connecting the modem to router or finally, modem may not be working as its not applicable in this case(as you said).
How to configure the router for Time Warner?
1.Connect comp.--(gray port) router (yellow port)--modem
2.On the computer, open the router page by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of browser
3.Under Internet Settings, change the connection type as Dynamic.
4.On the far left column, click on "MAC address" under Internet WAN.
5.Click on clone and apply changes and finally check Internet status
6.If internet status > Not connected, we need to do a network power cycle
7.For this, unplug the power from router, then from modem, then unplug the coaxial cable from cable modem.
8. Wait for 10 sec, then connect the coaxial cable, then connect power to modem, wait for lights on modem to get steady, then finally, plug in the power to router.
Now, you may see proper lights lit on the router.
All my best wishes for a fast internet service through the router.

For any advanced help, revert asap!
Thanks and regards,
Arvind

Hugesnet HN7000s Modem Only the power light comes on.

what seems to be the issue? i'm a hughesnet install/repair contractor

as a catch-all heres some places to start....

we'll start with the 5 lights on the front of the modem:

the top one tells you if the ethernet cable is plugged into anything.... if it's off check to make sure that cable is plugged in. if it is....replace the ethernet cable, they are cheap and available virtually everywhere from walmart to radio shack.

the next 2 lights are for transmit and recieve.... they should blink a lot but not in any particular pattern. if either of these lights is acting funny you could have cabling issue (ie: improper fitting, rust on the line, messed up groundblock, or even a severed cable), a misaligned dish, or even a blown radio (its far more common to blow out the radio than to blow out the modem...especially on those 7k systems) you might be able to correct the cable issue yourself with the right tools, but DO NOT attempt to re-align your dish....its touchy. btw i should state that if hughes catches you monkeying with your hardware they'll yank your warranty....either dont do it or dont get caught.

next light down is the "system" light. this tells you if you are connected to hughes. this light will be OFF of there is a problem with the transmit and recieve. if there is no problem with the transmit/recieve and this light is off there could be a billing problem at the other end. contact support.....you'll get a guy in india or the philipines or something that says his name is "harry" or "john" or "fred" or something american sounding. this always cracks me up.

next one down is the power light. if you have other lights on but the power light is off it indicates a broken modem...no way around it, you're gonna need a new modem.

ok, on with the trouble-shoot. if your top light is on you should be able to use your computer to look at the modem using a browser (firefox, internet explorer, safari, etc) type in 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. you should get a interface with some colored buttons across the top. the system status button should be green...any other color means trouble. the other 3 should be blue. if you cannot connect to the interface the trouble is user-end...bad ethernet cable (as mentioned before) or something beyond-the-line from the modem is messed up (router, computer, or something)

if you have any red lights you can click on them to see what's wrong. any problem areas will have red flags with error codes next to them. write these down as they are useful to diagnose what is actually wrong with the system.

if your system status button is yellow, click it....most likely you have "fapped out" (violated hughes' fair access policy) btw you can look at your signal strength too....there is no way to tell you what the signal strength should be since i dont know which bird (satellite) you're pointed at. each bird has a different acceptable signal strength.

let me know what you find and i'll see what i can do.

PROBLEMS WITH MODEM

well.as far as i know, it really depends with what red light it is.if you're pertaining to the RED light for power, then it's an issue with your power adapter.make sure it's getting the right volts from your outlet.if this is already done, try to plug the modem in different outlets esp. your kitchen and bathroom outlets. if same thing occur, your modem might be defective.

for ethernet light, if it is red, just make sure that your cable is properly plugged in, if yes, unplug the other end of it from the back of your computer and plug it on the other port of your modem,(what we're trying to do here is making sure that your cable is working fine)..the ethernet light must be green if it's ok but if it wont change, replace the cable with a new internet cable. this should solve the prob.

if the DSL/broadband link light is red, there might be an outage on your area. most of the time, if this is red, the next light wont lit or red as well.

hope this is helpful.

Ms700 router

Your laptop must be plugged into port 4, correct? Try this (assuming Windows XP): Click Start, then Run. In the box type CMD and click OK. In the black window that comes up type (without the quotes) "IPCONFIG /RELEASE" . Wait for the prompt to come back up then type "IPCONFIG /RENEW". Wait a few seconds. Type "EXIT". Try your Internet again.

Hope this helps!
