I have the same problem but when I remove the filter there is nothing in the filter. How do I get to the pump turbine through the filter?

1 Answer

You got to remove the filter in order to check if something has fallen from basket in pump turbine. So, first remove the filter and check for foreign objects inside. I'm almost certain that you'll find something that's colliding with pump turbine and makes the noise.

When maytag washer is draining it makes noises . What could be wrong

You could have a bad pump bearing. something caught in the pump or broken impeller blades on the pump. Bearing noise or a bad impeller would be noisy for as long as the pump is running. Please be more specific if you can on what types of noise it is making, whether it is noise that was there before and is just getting louder, and whether or not the noise is constant or intermittent.

Pump or bearing problem?

If this is a top load maytag, the pump bearing sleeve will rub the pump pulley and make a grinding noise. Replace the pump.

The noise you are hearing is from the drain pump that was a bad design. I change out about five of these pumps a month. There is a redesigned pump that is for that unit. To replace the pump, unplug the unit, tilt the machine back and remove the belt, remove the rear bottom left side access panel to access the pump. Remove the two hoses from the pump, then remove the three screws that hold the pump down. Install the new pump in reverse order. The new pump will look completely different but that is the new design. Here is the new pump to order.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

Maytag MVAT346AWW

Remove the back lower left access panel. You will find the drain pump there. 95% of these problems that you have described is from the drain pump bearing going out. If possible, run the washer with this panel opened and listen to the pump. If the noise you hear is coming from there replace the pump with the new designed pump. Here is the pump to order. To replace the pump, tilt the washer back and remove the belt, then remove the two hoses from the pump and then the three screws that hold the pump on. If the pump is not the problem, post back to me.

Coins making noise in pump area

If you are hearing coin noise in pump area, you need to take hose off pump assembly, and look inside pump, if left inside could block hole of pump and won't let washer pump water out.

Noise from pump...Whirlpool Duet HT

Okay, the followng link explains how to check the drain pump:

If you've already removed the pump once, then you are already ahead of the game. All you should have to do is remove the clean out trap and check the reservior. You can separate the motor from the pump by removing the screws that hold it in place from the pump housing. These pumps can make some noise. They will cavitate sometimes when the water has been pushed through the system and they begin to pump air. However, if the pump is exhibiting louder than usual noises, it may be time to replace it. Replacement pumps can be ordered on oine at or Compare the two sites for the best price. I hope this answers your questions. let me know if you need further assistance.
